Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Avina.
Hi Carlos, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Originally, we were set out to do a taco truck. But things changed quickly visiting some family in LA. They had a churro truck that made some of the best churros I’ve ever had. Came back home from that short trip and realized we don’t have anything like that here in San Diego. So immediately the Churro Addict story was born. We saw a need and filled a need by opening a churro truck here in San Diego. We started during the pandemic our first day open was September 13th.
Both my wife and I were still working our full time jobs and working the Churro Truck on the weekends as a side hustle. We had no idea that people would come to love our churros. Fast forward a year of just working the weekends and I was finally able to quit my job and work the churro truck full-time. We have some of the most amazing customers and supporters. We are truly blessed and humbled by it all.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth road? Not here with us, it’s been on a cliffhanger from the start LOL. Since starting during a pandemic it has always been an uphill battle.
With finding new customers to sustaining customs. Not to mention both my wife and I were new to food truck industry. It’s a lot more work than ever thought. But the goal is to keep our heads down and keep going. Always look forward and never look back. We are fighters and believe our GOD has blessed us in many ways, without him we would be lost and have not made it this far.
We’ve been impressed with Churro Addict , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Here at Churro Addict we specialize in “Freshly made CHURROS” when your craving a churro we want you to think of us “Churro Addict!” This recipe represents my take on a churro. We are known for our “Churros Sucios” (Dirty Churros) where you get 6 warm churros rolled in cinnamon and sugar and you can choose from a variety of toppings to drizzle on the top and make them dirty. We also have ice cream if you’re feeling like a churro Sunday or a la mode. For all the people who enjoy a classic churro, we have an “OG bag” that comes with 9 freshly made churros rolled in cinnamon and sugar.
