Today we’d like to introduce you to Chitrang Africawala.
Hi Chitrang, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always realized that the industry I am in is very special in its own way. The Legal IT landscape requires timely relevant service from its technology partner companies, which is not always feasible when vendor partners are overloaded with big and small IT demands from a large volume of clients.
Over the last decade, I traveled through US and Canada visiting numerous legal firms seeing their daily challenges and the obvious struggles that came with their Legal Accounting Software investment. After working with my clients over a period of a typical two-year deployment cycle, I started getting emotionally vested in their success. I knew having a portfolio of 60 clients (with single and multiple tasks) was not allowing me to give the type of dedicated time to key clients that I would prefer. I wanted quality over quantity with my client relationships, implementation plans and allow the time and space needed to creative problem-solving because that is what my clients deserved.
There are people in the Legal IT industry that have always appreciated and recognized my strengths and desire to provide a more tailored relationship to each one of them. Their appreciation made me realize that doing what I love in the service of people who loved my abilities was the key to true fulfillment and mutual success.
I knew I needed to serve the legal industry in a different way by leveraging the key strengths and try to make the whole experience as effortless as I can for them. My mission was clear: set my clients up for sustainable, long-term success, not just check the boxes on a list of technical requirements. They looked to me to minimize their pain points and I found joy in seeing their empowered selves once I was able to arm them with hands-on implementation and training.
The tipping point came when a client point-blank asked if I wanted to join their firm and go in-house at the end of a long implementation. I was definitely honored but I wanted to leverage what I had to offer in every possible way for every possible problem. I decided to quit my 9-5 job, square up with critical skills, and start Legal Square Tech. My passion to find creative and effective solutions for my clients is what defines the work we do.
We hope to make a difference in not only making customers love their investment but help invest in themselves to become self-sufficient in what they do.
It was time to enjoy the process so others can enjoy the results.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It depends how you define a smooth road. In terms of business development, it is hard as a new business owner but that also has its own benefits. Not only it has helped to continue discovering who I really am, how I function, my own personal challenges that reflects in the business and my contribution to human’s lives. That’s all a business is in terms of my view. I struggled initially to get out of a job mindset and becoming an owner of something that runs based on my view of the industry and human lives. It has been a wonderful journey and I hope it continues and grows.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
