Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Wilson
Hi Cody, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I discovered my passion for photography and videography during my college travels abroad. I would capture moments through photos and short videos, which sparked a creative drive. Once I returned to the States, someone came across my work and asked if I could help with b-roll for a project. After completing it, I remember driving home, thinking, “I can turn this passion into a business.”
Fast forward a few years, I was working in logistics and finance, but then the 2020 layoffs hit. That’s when I decided to fully commit to launching TruVUE Productions. I had no roadmap at the time, but I jumped in, formed an LLC, and started building a website from scratch. In the early days, I wore all the hats—photographer, editor, scheduler, and more. As my portfolio grew, so did the demand, allowing me to establish an offshore editing team to support the increasing workload.
Soon, we shifted our focus toward real estate media and marketing, which proved to be a game-changer for us. This transition led to significant growth, enabling us to bring on talented photographers, videographers, and certified drone pilots. By 2024, nearly five years since the company’s inception, we’ve managed over 500 projects in a year and even expanded into the Big Bear market.
What truly sets TruVUE apart is our ability to capture a wide range of projects, from real estate marketing to family photos, events, and weddings. Many clients start with one project, and after experiencing our quality, they return time and again. We’re incredibly grateful for the continued support of the San Diego community as we approach our fifth anniversary.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been far from a smooth road—at times, it felt like I was building the road as I walked it. On the creative and process side, we managed well, ensuring customers were happy as we found our footing operationally. Of course, there were moments when clients weren’t fully satisfied, but we always worked hard to exceed their expectations and provide a personalized experience.
As a young entrepreneur, there were many hurdles. Implementing effective strategies, hiring the right team, fostering growth, and making critical decisions took time and effort. Balancing all of this while working full-time in finance and being married has been one of the greatest challenges. I often joke that I’ve become a professional juggler, constantly managing multiple roles.

I consider myself extremely lucky and grateful for the opportunities I’ve had. It’s been a blend of passion, the flexibility of remote work, and my competitive drive that’s contributed to our success so far. I’m also fortunate to have a loving, supportive family that keeps everything balanced at home, allowing me to focus on growing TruVUE Productions.
