Exploring Life & Business with Darbe Canady of Sunset Club Vintage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darbe Canady

Hi Darbe, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Sunset Club Vintage was born from a blend of my lifelong love for fashion and design, which I cultivated while growing up in Chicago, and my move to San Diego where I saw an opportunity. While pursuing my resortwear brand, Malibu Darbe, I recognized that San Diego’s fashion scene was missing something—a place for women to find chic, stylish vintage and secondhand clothing for social occasions. San Diego women are have limited shopping options, most of which are tied to fast fashion, yet they value sustainability and supporting local businesses and communities. Sunset Club offers a space where women can discover unique, timeless pieces, from designer to mid-tier, that make them feel confident and stylish for any occasion, whether it’s brunch, a night out, or a sunset date.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest challenges with running Sunset Club Vintage is keeping the store consistently stocked. As a one-woman show, balancing both sourcing and running the shop is a constant juggling act. When the shop inventory runs low, I need to step away from operations to focus on finding new pieces, which can be time-consuming. While I truly enjoy both aspects of the business, I’m hopeful to bring on in-store help soon to ease the workload and ensure the shop remains fully stocked at all times.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Sunset Club Vintage?
Sunset Club Vintage is the first appointment-based full-service vintage studio for young women in San Diego, with pieces inspired by the chic, stylish, and timeless fashion of the early 2000s and 90s. Our pieces cater to women with busy social lives who love to express themselves through fashion, whether it’s for brunch, a night out, or any social occasion.

What sets us apart is our commitment to community and sustainability. In less than six months, we’ve cultivated a strong base of repeat shoppers who believe in our mission. We’re also proud to have hosted several community events, where women can connect and shop sustainably. Additionally, we offer tailoring services for any pieces purchased, making Sunset Club Vintage a one-stop shop for all your social attire needs.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is creating a community of women who can connect with one another through self-expression. I believe that shopping vintage and secondhand is essential for improving the environmental conditions of our planet. Fast fashion creates an overwhelming amount of waste, and almost any garment anyone could want already exists out there somewhere. By investing in quality clothing meant to last and tailoring it to fit well, we can create wardrobe staples that will withstand the test of time. I’m passionate about educating women in San Diego on how to do this in a way that still feels authentic to their personal style. It’s about building a space where women can feel empowered, sustainable, and stylish all at once.
