Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Barbiani.
Hi Diana, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My entrepreneurial journey began long before I launched my own company; watching my mother run her small business showed me what it means to lead with resilience, creativity, and heart. Over the past two decades, I’ve carried those lessons into my own career, co-owning a retail chain and a wholesale business before founding The Rep Academy.
Through The Rep Academy, I help small business owners grow strategically and sustainably. I’ve facilitated hundreds of workshops and coached thousands of founders through accelerators and community programs across California, guiding them to increase profitability, refine pricing, and build sales confidence.
What drives me most is impact. Beyond business, I’m deeply involved in philanthropy as part of the San Diego Women’s Giving Network, a local giving circle supporting nonprofits that uplift local communities. For me, success isn’t just about profit; it’s about purpose, generosity, and using business as a force for good.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like most entrepreneurs, my journey has had its share of detours and growing pains. Building a business, especially while balancing multiple roles as a leader, consultant, and mentor, has required constant learning and recalibrating. There were seasons when growth felt slower than I hoped, or when I had to completely reimagine my business model to align with new goals and changing markets.
One of the biggest challenges was learning to navigate uncertainty with grace; to trust that even setbacks were preparing me for the next level. Over time, I realized that every obstacle was an invitation to grow stronger, both personally and professionally.
I’ve also witnessed how isolation can affect small business owners, especially women. That’s one of the reasons I became active in my giving circle: to create spaces where women feel seen, supported, and celebrated, not just for their success but for their resilience. Giving back through philanthropy and mentorship has reminded me that even when the road isn’t smooth, it’s always meaningful when we travel it together.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At The Rep Academy, we help small business owners, product-based entrepreneurs, and retail founders grow their businesses with strategy, confidence, and purpose. We specialize in turning complex concepts like pricing, wholesale operations, and B2B sales into practical, actionable steps that empower entrepreneurs to increase profitability without losing authenticity or heart.
Over the years, I’ve facilitated hundreds of workshops and advised thousands of business owners through incubators, accelerators, and community programs across California. What sets The Rep Academy apart is the blend of strategy and soul — we focus not only on the numbers but also on the mindset behind them. Because when entrepreneurs understand both the data and their deeper “why,” they build businesses that are both profitable and fulfilling.
At its core, The Rep Academy is more than a consulting practice — it’s a movement for conscious, confident, and community-driven entrepreneurship.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
If I could share one piece of advice with anyone just starting out, it would be this: start before you feel ready. Perfection can easily become procrastination. The truth is, clarity comes from action, not from waiting for everything to line up perfectly.
I also believe it’s important to build your business around your values, not just your vision. Success feels very different when it aligns with who you are and what you stand for. The more I embraced authenticity over appearances, the more aligned opportunities began to appear.
And finally, don’t go it alone. Surround yourself with mentors, peers, and communities that uplift and challenge you. My involvement with the San Diego Women’s Giving Network has reminded me that collaboration and generosity create lasting impact. When we lift each other up, we all rise higher.
