Exploring Life & Business with Elyse Clark of Roam Homeware

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elyse Clark.

Elyse Clark

Hi Elyse, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Roam Homeware was inspired by my years of living and “roaming” around different countries. During that time, I would collaborate with local artisans, design custom pieces, and hunt for treasures at auctions and antique warehouses. My true journey with Roam began when I started designing a line of chairs, drawing on my background in Interior Design. After several years abroad, I returned to my hometown of San Diego and noticed a real need for accessible, one-of-a-kind furniture and decor. That’s how Roam Homeware came to life. Everything in our shop is either reclaimed, handmade, or vintage, and sourced from over 10 countries worldwide.

Beyond home goods, I’ve also partnered with my fiancé, who is a horticulturist. Together, we offer a unique selection of plants and vessels to complement our pieces. We’re thrilled to announce that we’re expanding! This fall, we’ll be opening our second San Diego location—a 4,000 sq ft showroom and full-service interior design studio in Birdrock, La Jolla. We can’t wait to share it with you!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

No start-up is a walk in the park, and we’ve had to hit the ground running when it comes to running a retail business. From navigating sourcing inventory & lead times to making sure people even know we’re here, it’s been a wild ride. But with every challenge, we’re growing stronger. The best part? The amazing support and feedback we’ve gotten from the community. It’s what keeps us energized and excited to keep pushing forward!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are known for having a large selection of unique home decor, water features & plants. We roam around world to source unique items for our shop. We are proud to say that we source sustainably and give objects we find a second life and home. In addition to the shop we’d love our readers to know that we are a full service interior design studio & offer in-home plant services.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The home industry is booming, with a major revival in demand for vintage, high-quality pieces. When done right, a home store can be truly romantic—a place where people want to gather, explore, and hang out. It’s a far cry from the shops of the past that often lacked personality and soul. We look forward to hosting events regularly so it can feel like a little piece of home for everybody.
