Today, we’d like to introduce you to Erick Rosales.
Hi Erick, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I started around seven and a half years ago when I was 21. I used to work at a coffee shop in Rosarito, and I quit on a Monday to host my first tour on a Saturday; I’m pretty sure it was February 8th, 2017.
Ivan Castro introduced me to this world, although I have been part of the food and drink industry since I was 17, as a waiter, cook, dishwasher, runner, and barista right before becoming a host.
Two years into it, I decided to become independent and created Baja Tour Guide, focusing on the exposure of the industry in Baja and sharing a philosophy of respect for every member of it because we understand that everyone is important.
And here we are.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The day-by-day struggle of being an entrepreneur, you’re basically on your own, and at the end of the day, it’s up to you; all you can do is try your best and a little more; you have to be in love with it to enjoy the ups and downs. (But never get used to it).
The pandemic, of course. It affected us all in the industry. Everything closed down for exactly 4-months. It was something no one expected, and it seemed like it would be just a quick break. It turned into many places closing down; it was hard.
And now, with this “quiet” recession happening in the world, the peso-dollar ratio, people feeling unsafe and unsure of spending money on traveling, it’s quite silent but true. We’ve been feeling it since last year, probably the struggle post-pandemic + all of the you-know-what happening around the world and our region.
All we can say is this is a good moment in time to be resilient, innovate, and as a local project, try to offer our guests the best of the best to at least be a company that is trustworthy.
As you know, we’re big fans of Baja Tour Guide. For our readers who might not be as familiar with the brand, what can you tell them about it?
Baja Tour Guide is an initiative created by Erick Rosales focused on the exposure and promotion of Baja California’s food and drink industry scene by crafting private experiences along Valle de Guadalupe, Tijuana, Rosarito, and Ensenada while sharing a philosophy of respect for every member of this amazing industry.
We’re very proud to be a local project and to have worked in this industry for the last ten years. Our relationship with our colleagues and the customer service we provide is immaculate. We pay special attention to the details, understand the value that you as our guest have, and want to make you feel safe and comfortable about letting us take care of you. Trust us, you’ll leave already planning your next trip.
We’ll make you feel at home.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Anywhere you go, trust the locals, try new dishes, drink a new beer, order something new, and don’t forget to tip your server.
