Exploring Life & Business with George Puga of La Cajita

Today, we’d like to introduce you to George Puga.

George Puga

Hi George, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
La Cajita was born from the essence of a family fiesta. Growing up, every excuse for a party was embraced with enthusiasm in my family.

We all know that no fiesta is complete without sweet treats and family games. Thus, the concept of celebrating the joy and flavors of our Latino heritage emerged. La Cajita is about fun, sweets, childhood memories, and cherished traditions. We’re more than just a candy shop; we’re a family-owned business sharing the essence of family gatherings with you.

Exciting news! La Cajita has recently expanded its offerings with two fantastic additions. Building on the success of our La Cajita Fiesta Concept, we’re delighted to introduce Candy Bar catering for events and photography services for fiestas.

Introducing “El Carrito” Candy Event catering, where we bring sweetness to your celebration. And don’t forget about “El Photo Booth,” featuring a 360 photo booth and a selfie station photo booth, capturing memories in style.

Whether you’re planning a party or fiesta, we’ve got you covered with our new services. Let La Cajita add a touch of sweetness and fun to your next event! We’re committed to ongoing growth and infusing our culture into everything we do. Stay tuned for more exciting projects ahead!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey to La Cajita has been quite a ride! In the early stages, handling all the planning, paperwork, and licenses as a solo entrepreneur required patience and perseverance.

Luckily, I had an amazing support network that believed in my vision and helped bring La Cajita to life.

As our business expands, so does the demand for time and attention to keep the momentum going and foster community connections. Growing our network is a key goal moving forward.

I appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about La Cajita?
La Cajita is your ultimate Dulceria destination!

We’re proud to offer a delightful array of Mexican candy gift sets curated with care to bring you the authentic flavors of our culture. From mazapanes to pelones, paletas, and more, each item is handpicked from the vibrant San Diego border region, ensuring a taste of nostalgia in every bite.

What sets La Cajita apart is its unmatched accessibility. With just a click online, you can send a thoughtful care package or special gift to anyone, anywhere, anytime. No waiting times or subscription hassles—La Cajita is about promptness and convenience.

And if you’re hosting a fiesta, let the “El Carrito” candy bar bring the dulces directly to your event, adding an extra layer of sweetness to your celebration.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
As a solo part-time entrepreneur, La Cajita has evolved beyond just a side business—it’s become a means of sharing our culture with the world.

Community involvement is at the heart of what we do. That’s why La Cajita is dedicated to giving back and staying connected with our community. One way we do this is through our partnership with a local nonprofit in San Diego named Promises2Kids, where I also serve as an Associate Director of Programs.

Every May, during NATIONAL FOSTER CARE MONTH, La Cajita proudly participates in the Foodies 4 Foster Kids campaign. This initiative aims to raise awareness and funds for the 3,000 current and former foster children in our community. As part of our commitment, 25% of EVERY SALE throughout the month is donated to Promises2Kids, supporting their invaluable work.
