Exploring Life & Business with Gina Flores of Skin Society

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina Flores.

Hi Gina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always had a deep love for makeup and skincare – my friends used to tease me in high school for carrying around an entire beauty kit. But despite that passion, I ended up taking a different path and spent the next 10 years working in retail. Over time, I found myself deeply unhappy at work. The stress of the job began to affect both my physical and mental health, and I realized something had to change.

One particularly difficult day pushed me to start seriously thinking about leaving. At first, I considered finding another job in the same field, but it quickly became clear that it would just be more of the same. That’s when I turned to what still brought me joy – skincare.

After months of careful planning, I made the tough decision to leave my job. Saying goodbye to my team was incredibly emotional, but we all knew it was the right move. I packed everything up and returned home to San Diego, where I enrolled at California Advanced Esthetics. I earned my Master Esthetics diploma, got licensed, and soon after, launched my own business: Skin Society. With my background in retail and management, I knew I had the tools to run a successful operation. Taking that leap has been one of the most empowering decisions of my life.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey hasn’t always been smooth, but I’m genuinely enjoying every twist and turn. There were definitely moments when I questioned whether I’d made the right decision. I was scared – not of failure, necessarily, but of the unknown. I’m a Taurus, so I thrive on stability, and walking away from the security of a corporate job with a steady paycheck to start from scratch was a massive shift. Now, I work for myself in a completely different industry, and I’m learning something new every single day. The road is still a little uneven, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I founded Skin Society with inclusivity and comfort at the heart of everything I do. It’s important to me that every client feels safe, seen, and welcome in my space. That’s why I’ve made thoughtful choices – like offering robes in a range of sizes, bilingual services in English and Spanish, and skincare products suited for diverse skin types, tones, and budgets. My approach blends modern holistic practices – such as crystal therapy, magnesium spray, and space cleansing while using science-backed skincare to deliver real, visible results. While I specialize in pigmentation and aging concerns, my ultimate goal is to help every client achieve healthy, glowing skin they feel confident in.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My biggest piece of advice is to quiet the noise of others’ opinions and pursue what truly makes you happy. It won’t always be easy, but it will absolutely be worth it. And no matter where you are in your journey, never stop learning – growth is continuous
