Exploring Life & Business with Igor Pererodov of Igor Pererodov Sax

Today we’d like to introduce you to Igor Pererodov

Hi Igor, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was just a curious 7-year-old boy in a small Ukrainian town when I first heard the sultry tones of a saxophone on the radio. It was like nothing I’d ever experienced before – the sound seemed to reach right into my soul and awaken something. From that moment, I knew I had to learn to create that magic myself. I asked my parents to enroll me into a local music school. During the interview the lady who was checking music skills recommended to pick a violin but I didn’t see myself playing a violin and asked my parents to insist on the saxophone class.

My parents scraped together enough money to buy me a really mediocre secondhand saxophone, but I practiced relentlessly. The instrument became an extension of myself, a way to express emotions I couldn’t put into words. Then when I was a teenager I’ve managed to win a Grand Prix “Silver Bell” where the main prize was a good Selmer Paris saxophone. It really gave me confidence to pursue my dreams to become a pro musician. Through years of dedication at the Conservatory and countless performances, I realized that music wasn’t just a hobby or even a career for me – it was my calling.

In Ukraine, I found joy in bringing music to people’s most cherished moments – weddings, birthdays, celebrations of all kinds. Seeing how my music could move people, make them dance, cry, or fall in love… that’s when I truly understood my purpose. I’m here to connect with people through music, to stir their emotions and create unforgettable memories.

Now, here in the United States, I’m on a new journey. The music scene is different, the culture is different, but my purpose remains the same. I want to touch people’s hearts with my music, to bridge cultural gaps, and to show that the language of music is universal. It’s challenging, starting over in a new country, but I know this is where I need to be to grow as an artist and fulfill my purpose on an even bigger stage.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not smooth at all! Initially, it was resources. Quality instruments and training are expensive. Later, it became my own preconceptions about what “good” music should sound like. Breaking free from those notions to explore and create more freely – that was a significant hurdle.

Now, here in America, I face new learning challenges. The music business here operates differently, and there’s so much to learn about marketing myself, networking, and understanding the local music scene. But you know what? Each obstacle is just another opportunity to grow. As we say in Ukraine, “Важко в навчанні — легко в бою” (Hard in training, easy in battle). Every challenge overcome makes me a better musician and a stronger person.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Igor Pererodov Sax?
From those early days of practicing in our small apartment, much to my neighbors’ laughs, I went on to study at the prestigious Kharkiv Conservatory. There, I honed my skills in classical and traditional jazz music, laying a strong foundation for my future career.

After graduation, I quickly became a popular choice for weddings and parties in Ukraine. My ability to blend traditional melodies with contemporary styles made me a hit with both older and younger generations. But I yearned for more, to push my boundaries and explore new musical landscapes.

This drive led me to some incredible opportunities. I secured contracts to play at the luxurious Bulgari resort in Dubai and various high-end hotels and restaurants in Tunisia. These experiences were transformative. Not only did they expose me to a wide array of musical styles – from smooth jazz to Arabian-influenced melodies – but they also taught me how to connect with diverse audiences.

Now, here in the United States, I’m offering a unique blend of services.

I provide live saxophone performances for events – weddings, corporate gatherings, jazz clubs – but with a twist. My performances are a fusion of American jazz, Eastern European melodies, and influences from my time in the Middle East and North Africa. It’s a sound that’s distinctly mine, a musical journey around the world in one performance.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Yes for sure! Eat vitamins, do sport , stay safe 🙂
