Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Schlein.
Hi Katie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always had a deep curiosity about health and the human body. Growing up, I was actually a pretty sick kid, and I often wondered why my body wasn’t functioning the way it should. That curiosity turned into a lifelong passion for learning how the body works and how people can truly heal from within.
After a collegiate career playing sports and then working in college basketball, I realized my true calling was in health care that empowers people instead of just managing symptoms. That led me to chiropractic school at Life Chiropractic College West, where I discovered the incredible potential of the nervous system and the power of gentle, neurologically focused care.
Family Connection Chiropractic officially opened its doors in April of 2020—right as the world had shut down. Even in the uncertainty of that time, our mission stayed the same: to serve families, empower moms, and support children in their fullest expression of health.
Today, I specialize in prenatal and pediatric care—helping moms feel confident in pregnancy and postpartum, supporting breastfeeding and latch, and giving kids every chance to thrive without unnecessary drugs or surgery. Yes, we take care of dads too. Dads’ nervous systems and health are super important to keep things on point for the things they love to do and for spending time with their family.
Every day, I get to witness babies sleep better, kids focus more, and parents feel more connected to themselves and their families. I truly believe health is a right, not a privilege, and my greatest joy is helping families tap into their body’s innate ability to heal and thrive.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Has it been a smooth road? Not at all. Opening a brick-and-mortar business in the middle of a global pandemic came with a unique set of challenges. From navigating shutdowns to adapting quickly just to keep our doors open, it definitely tested my perseverance.
On top of that, the economic pressures and the high cost of rent in San Diego have been very real challenges. What has kept me grounded is continuing to focus on our purpose and mission—serving families, empowering moms, and supporting children—rather than getting stuck in the obstacles.
The members make it all worth it. Our space is really special, and I’m honored to lead our office.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Family Connection Chiropractic?
Family Connection Chiropractic is not your typical chiropractic office. We specialize in nervous system–focused care for the whole family, with an emphasis on prenatal, pediatric, and family wellness. That means we’re not just chasing symptoms — we’re getting to the root cause by looking at how the brain and body are communicating.
One of the biggest things that sets us apart is our use of INSiGHT Scans. These scans give us a window into your nervous system so we can see what’s working too hard, what’s not working enough, and how stress is showing up in your body. It’s like having a roadmap for your health instead of just guessing.
We also practice Torque Release Technique (TRT), which is one of the most researched and gentle techniques in chiropractic today. Translation? No clicks, cracks, or pops. Just specific, precise adjustments that get results — so gentle we can use them on newborns, pregnant moms, and even grandparents in their 90s.
We’re not a typical doctor’s office — we’ve got a couch, an open adjusting space, and an environment that feels more like community than clinic. We’re known for helping kids thrive, moms feel empowered through pregnancy and postpartum, and families stay connected and healthy. And yes, we take care of dads too — because let’s be real, they need their nervous systems tuned up just as much to keep up with work, play, and family life.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that our office feels different the moment you walk in. It’s warm, kid-friendly, inclusive, and fun. Moms become friends here, and our monthly Mama Bear pregnancy–postpartum connection group is truly special. We’re serious about health but not too serious about ourselves — if you’re looking for a cold, clinical vibe, you won’t find it here. What you will find is a supportive community and a team that believes health is a right, not a privilege.
At the end of the day, our mission is simple: to serve, empower, and support. We want every person who walks through our doors to feel seen, cared for, and connected to their fullest potential.
What does success mean to you?
For me, success isn’t about numbers or how busy our schedule looks. Success is when families feel seen, heard, and supported in our office. It’s a mom who comes in frustrated and exhausted from the breastfeeding journey and leaves more confident, supported, and secure knowing that breastfeeding is innate and with time and support, things can click. It’s a baby who finally sleeps through the night, or a dad who realizes he has more energy to play with his kids.
I define success as creating a space where health feels accessible, inclusive, and even fun — where people actually look forward to coming in. When our members tell me they feel like family here, that’s success. And when I see families connecting with each other in our office, that’s the real win — because it means we’re not just adjusting spines, we’re building community.
