Today we’d like to introduce you to Keenan Jacobsen
Hi Keenan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story actually began in Aviation, working as a young pilot. When life circumstances changed and I became a full-time single father to my (at the time) 2 year old son, I needed more flexibility in my career than flying would have allowed. Through a series of twists and turns, my career path and a newly-found passion in sailing lead me into the Yachting Industry and a career as a Yacht Broker. Now several years later, my son is 21 and has recently come to work with me and has just passed his Yacht Sales Exam…it’s been a true coming full circle in a career I love and find extremely rewarding!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
A smooth road…No, there have definitely been some bumps! Becoming a full-time single parent while still in your mid-twenties presents a special set of challenges. Being a single father was an extra twist because I was the custodial parent which I loved very much, but still needed to get creative on having enough time to work in a meaningful career and support my son.. The twists and turns I previously mentioned was trying to find a career that I liked, that was lucrative enough to support my family and nothing in Aviation (aside from being a pilot) was interesting to me. This lead me outside Aviation and through career chapters of being a Certified Personal Trainer, Project Manager in commercial construction, a role in advertising and finally I found my love in sailing and created my career around that passion. So yeah, a few bumps…but mostly great things along the way and one hell of a story!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Jacobsen Yachts & Captain Collective?
My business is actually two-fold…Jacobsen Yachts is my Yacht Broker business which is run through a great local brokerage, Cruising Yachts. We specialize in both new and pre-owned sailing and power yachts. I help my clients, whether buyers or sellers find the right yacht or interested party for their specific needs. I specialize in the European sailing and power yacht brands of Bavaria and Bali, among several others that I have represented over the years.
The other end of my business-which definitely sets us apart from the competition-is to take care of our clients after the sale as well…we do this by offering our Membership Service Program of Yacht Delivery and Yacht Management through the Captain Collective leg of our business. Often times a client will buy a yacht through us in another part of the country or world, Captain Collective will arrange one of our USCG Captains to bring the yacht from it’s current location to the desired destination. Once the boat is in it’s home port, we offer a three-tiered Membership Program through Captain Collective that provides Yacht Management, which is an ongoing maintenance and service program of the boat by our professional yachts crews, located all over the world for one simple monthly payment.
So for our clients, it is a true full-service yacht buying experience when working with us…from us finding you the right yacht, to the sales cycle, through the delivery of the vessel to it’s new home and then taking care of the yacht for our clients so they can simply enjoy the yachting lifestyle! Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice is to tell those starting out-make sure you LOVE what you are doing. We all hear it all the time, but so many of us don’t follow this advice (I know it took me awhile to learn this)! If you don’t have the passion for it-even if you’re making a lot of money-it will get old-very quick…listen to your intuition and go after what you REALLY want to do!
