Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Vincent
Hi Kelly, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It has definitely been a journey to say the least. I started my career after college in digital marketing, working for an advertising agency in LA. I spent 6+ years working for various digital marketing agencies and companies, such as Sephora, Visa, and eBay. By age 26, I started to realize my heart wasn’t aligned with marketing, and after much thought and exploration, I decided to go back to school to pursue my doctorate in clinical psychology. During graduate school, I envisioned a place where individuals could receive comprehensive support for both their physical and mental well-being. I was super passionate about the integration of movement and felt that traditional therapy lacked in offering a more holistic approach. Once I obtained my license, I opened a private practice in Encinitas and created a co-working space for therapists. For a handful of years, I focused on my individual clients and expanded my knowledge in integrative therapy modalities, such as yoga therapy, Polyvagal theory, and EMDR.
When my practice was running smoothly, I revisited that initial dream. With a lot of conversation, planning, and exploration, we decided to jump head first. A little over two years ago, my husband and I founded Nourished Wellness Group, a holistic therapy practice. Our goal was to offer our clients an integrated approach to healing, combining both cognitive-focused (top-down) and somatic-focused (bottom-up) methods. We continue to strive to build a practice that is dedicated to providing traditional evidence-based talk therapy alongside holistic therapies like somatic therapy, EMDR, yoga therapy, nervous system education/regulation, and walk-and-talk therapy. Another big piece of how we work is to collaborate with holistic community partners, such as naturopathic medicine practitioners, acupuncturists, and energy healers, to enhance and complement our clients’ treatment plans. We truly believe that when it comes to our mental health, we need to look (and treat) the whole self. Mental health issues often have deep-rooted causes that need to be addressed on multiple levels—cognitive, physical, somatic, and spiritual.
I can honestly say I have the best team of skilled clinicians (learn more about them here) and support staff who are just as passionate as I am about an integrative approach to helping our clients heal and thrive. It has been a lot of work thus far, but it has definitely been worth it.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
With any new business, there are definitely going to be bumps in the road. I don’t know a single business owner who says their journey has been smooth. This is one reason why I love working with female entrepreneurs, as support is critical when building your dream.
I know for me there has been a lot of learning when it comes to the nuts and bolts of operating a group therapy practice. Some of the struggles have been more practical, such as how to run the business more efficiently and to manage the various hats (e.g., HR, finance, operations, etc.). I think I have realized over the years that you often just have to jump right in and that is when the learning truly happens. You can read all the books, ask all the questions, or try to prepare yourself as much as possible, but nothing compares to actually doing the work. It is for sure a labor of love. 🙂
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We’re a mental health collective of experienced therapists and holistic practitioners dedicated to supporting individuals with anxiety, relationship issues, chronic dysregulation, life transitions, and trauma. By taking an integrative approach to therapy, we embrace you as the whole person you are – looking after your mind and body in unison. When we address the interconnected nature of your humanness, the focus shifts from individual symptoms to delicately fine-tuning how all the parts harmonize to support your overall well-being.
Unlike traditional therapy’s narrow focus, our diverse team collaborates to offer a well-rounded approach. We combine top-down (cognitive) and bottom-up (body sensations & feelings) methods with the intention of achieving alignment with the mind, body, and soul. Recognizing this looks different for every courageous individual, therapies may include: somatic exercises, EMDR, nervous system regulation, and mind-body techniques like yoga, meditation, and breathwork.
