Exploring Life & Business with Klarisse Caranay of Merakilouskin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Klarisse Caranay.

Klarisse Caranay

Hi Klarisse, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was first introduced to the beauty industry back in 2018 when I took a permanent brow course as a way of making another stream of income while going to junior college. Still figuring out what career path interested me; I thought that taking this course would widen my curiosity in the field of beauty. With no surprise, I loved everything about brows and being able to give someone that boost of confidence from such a small area of the face! I was taking house calls, taking as many clients as I could and growing my small business (BrowsByKlarisse) I soon realized this was something I wanted more than just another stream of income, I wanted to create this as a career path. Fast forward to 2019, I took the leap of faith and enrolled in esthetician school, and the rest is history! Although I no longer provide brows as a service, I have so much appreciation for the art, and has been such a big part of my journey! I wouldn’t be doing esthetics if it wasn’t for 20-year-old Klarisse taking that 3-day brow course!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but I am extremely grateful for where I am and how far along I’ve gone, not only with my business but as a business owner. Social media glorifies the idea that owning a business gives you the freedom to have your own schedule, be your own boss, etc… they don’t show the behind-the-scenes of what goes on. Burnout is a real thing, and I’ve learned the hard way that taking mental breaks for yourself is extremely important to keep your business going and growing.

Almost all businesses have their challenges, things can resurface, but I have understood that those outside distractions happen for a reason, and they are completely out of my control. It is up to me how I want to face those distractions/situations and if I’m going to allow those things affect me, and I choose not to! Keep pushing through all the hard times and focus on your OWN journey and what you want for your business because, at the end of the day, that’s all that matters! Challenges happen for a reason, and they are the key to growth!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
I first want to start with the meaning behind the name and why I chose it.

Merakilouskin is supposed to sound like the word “miraculous.”

The main word I always emphasize, and what essentially my brand is about, is the word “Meraki,” which is derived from the Greek language. There are multiple meanings that I have read but the definition that stood out to me the most is “when you do something with soul, love, creativity; putting a piece of yourself in the work that you do. (essence of yourself). “

Merakilouskin’s main goal is if it is your first time coming in or a loyal client, we promise to always provide a comfortable and relaxing experience for all our guests. When you are in our treatment room, we will ensure that it is a safe space. We are here to listen, educate, and build a more confident version of you! We will strive to achieve any or all goals once you leave our hands.

— Klarisse G Caranay, Founder

Merakilouskin mainly focuses on lash extensions and facials. I believe right now, in my current career, I’ve been focusing more on facials, more specifically Acne. I currently do an Acne Bootcamp program with Face Reality Skincare and have been providing this service for my clients for 2 years now. The results I have achieved have been amazing for not just my clients but also for myself! It has been extremely fulfilling to know that I can be a part of someone’s skin journey, something that once was an insecurity can turn into confidence and so much more!

I am most proud of Merakilouskin because of the community that I have been surrounded by and the amazing clients and estis I have met along the way!

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I would like to thank my family, friends, boyfriend (for being my guinea pig, hehe), and clients for supporting me through my esthetician journey! Merakilouskin would not be where it is today, and it’s because of them I keep pushing to excel in my business! I especially want to thank my parents for putting their trust and allowing me to pursue a career that isn’t within their norms; coming from immigrant parents who only want to create the best life for their kids and set them up for success, they’ve truly given me that and more.

I am so excited for what’s to come for Merakilouskin! I just know it’s always going to be up from here!
