Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Moore.
Laura, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My entrepreneurial journey started fresh out of college in the bangin’ year of 2007 – sweet ol’ time of the millenial’s recession. Wonky job market and even floppier housing options pushed us to get risky and go hard with our baby media company. We pulled out all the stops and tapped all the relationships. The inception of social media timing was on our side and our media. company hit stride right as instagram was. Weddings quickly became the most lucrative revenue stream for our studio. We maneuvered economic downturns and wedding industry shifts a couple times. Branding exercises, social media pivots, marketing campaign test runs, redesigns with websites, messy bookkeeping, tax surprises, 24/7 work schedules and irregular income — we experienced all of the highs and woes of small business.
in 2022 I had a bit of a reckoning. Algorithms were changing and I was aging. I knew that I had gaps in my proficiency as a small business owner and I wanted to grow as an entrepreneur. I branched out my B2B side of photography and started developing the guts and chops to provide more intuitive marketing consulting as part of my product offerings. I took on a couple corporate jobs that stretched my understanding of data and analytic tracking, revenue operations, visual applications and tactical growth strategies. Photography started morphing from an end-result contract into a vehicle to help businesses and brands grow. Now there are three branches of LKM: (1) Weddings, (2) Portraits, (3) B2B Headshots/Event Photography. Each are still driven by a strong belief that a strong story and honored people are the guts of a healthy business. Whether surrounded by chandeliers and champaign or suits and ties, providing an end portfolio that delivers excellence and joy is what drives us forward.
Cheers to storytelling and business building.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Greatest struggles of developing as an entrepreneur is recognizing weaknesses and then scaffolding my team with accountability and/or getting help to fill in the gaps. Book keeping and accounting have always been a sore spot for me–healthiest of seasons have been the ones where I found balance that was measured by making sure people stayed the focus and that I was able to serve my clients personably.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

What was your favorite childhood memory?
There is a place in the middle of Florida just an hour from the gulf where my Grandma’s house sits on the edge of the Rainbow River. I grew up visiting her and swimming in the river, bird watching, canoeing, hunting for alligators and catching turtles. It was a place that would always slow me down from the California pace and remind me how different the world looks and feels outside of our hustling and bustling.
