Exploring Life & Business with Leila Offner of Precious Petcare

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leila Offner.

Hi Leila, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hello! I am Leila Offner. The Founder of Precious Petcare San Diego.
I started my business back in 2015 as a solo pet sitter. Over the years I started gaining a lot of repeat loyal clients that I couldn’t handle all of them myself and started hiring people that could help me. Being a pet sitter sounds easy but it’s not. It’s definitely not a job for anybody. You really have to be very attentive, detail oriented, have great communication skills, know how to handle all sort of dogs and get to know each dog. Just because a dog is a certain breed doesn’t mean they are all the same. Every dog has it’s each personality and it’s our job to build that trust, safety and relationship with them. I go through an extensive hiring process which is 3 stages so I pick out the best of the best pet sitters to join our team. We have a 5-star reputation and we like to keep It that way. We now have for 20 pet sitters and I have started doggie daycare and dog boarding as well. I even have a bright pink dog bus that I get to pick up every day and take them to “school” and drop them off at the end of the day. I really have the best job!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I definitely have gone through a lot of roadblocks. The biggest one was Covid since EVERYONE was home and no one needed to hire a pet sitter. A lot of petsitting businesses went out of business during this tough time. Luckily, for us we have such supportive and loyal clients we still had people hiring us to walk their dogs outside because they didn’t feel comfortable leaving their home. We also provided other services such as picking up prescription pills or going grocery shoppings for them. I’ve also had a fair share of pet sitters that just weren’t good. It is all a learning experience though and now I know how to pick people that would thrive as a pet sitter being on our team!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are San Diego’s #1 pet sitting business. We specialize in personalized care for your pet because each pet is unique and different in their own way. We are a full service pet care business so we offer everything from dog walks, cat visits, in-home overnight care, doggie daycare, dog boarding, pet transportation, wedding pet attendant services and many more! We don’t take care of just cats & dogs, we care for all pets! We love caring for pets with special needs and challenging ones as well.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is when you never get tired of going to “work”.
