Exploring Life & Business with Leilani Valentine of Beauty Icon Skin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leilani Valentine.

Hi Leilani, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Beauty Icon started with a simple idea: I wanted to create the kind of body care product I was searching for but couldn’t find in stores.

I’ve always loved beauty, fragrance, and the experience of feeling put together, but I was never really a traditional lotion person. I wanted something richer and more nourishing, but many body butters felt too heavy or greasy for everyday use. I kept thinking there had to be something in between. something that delivered lasting moisture while still feeling soft, lightweight, luxurious, and beautiful on the skin.

With the encouragement of my husband, I decided to stop searching for it and create it myself.

That idea became Beauty Icon Skin, a San Diego–based beauty brand centered around our signature Whip Luxe Body Soufflé. I spent time developing a product that brought together everything I wanted from body care: rich butters and nourishing oils, a soft whipped texture, a beautiful glow, and fragrance that makes your daily routine feel elevated.

For me, the experience is just as important as the product. You see the hydration, you see the shine and glow, you feel the softness, and you smell like fine fragrance. I wanted body care to feel like an extension of beauty and personal style, not simply another step in your routine.

Building Beauty Icon Skin has meant learning every part of entrepreneurship, from developing products and packaging to creating the brand, connecting with customers, and growing a community. What began as something I couldn’t find on a store shelf has grown into a brand with a much bigger vision.

My goal is to continue growing Beauty Icon from here in San Diego into a brand women can eventually discover on those very store shelves where my search first began.

At the heart of it all is one idea: Elevate Your Everyday. I believe luxury doesn’t have to be reserved for special occasions. Sometimes it can be as simple as taking a few extra moments for yourself and turning an everyday routine into something that makes you feel beautiful, confident, and iconic.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but I’ve learned that building something meaningful rarely is.

One of my biggest challenges has been learning how to turn a vision into an actual brand. Creating a beautiful product is only one piece of it. I’ve had to learn product development, sourcing, packaging, production, marketing, shipping, customer experience, and all of the behind-the-scenes details that customers may never see.

There have been moments when something didn’t turn out exactly as I envisioned, and I had to go back, make adjustments, and try again. As a founder, you quickly learn that you can’t become too attached to one version of an idea. Sometimes you have to pivot while still protecting the overall vision.

Another challenge has been building brand awareness and earning customers’ trust as a newer beauty brand. There are so many products competing for attention, so I’ve been intentional about creating something that feels different and giving people a reason to experience Beauty Icon Skin for themselves.

I’ve also had to learn patience. I have a big vision for Beauty Icon, and naturally, I want to see everything happen at once. Entrepreneurship has taught me that sustainable growth takes time.

Every challenge has ultimately made me more resourceful, more confident in my decisions, and even more committed to what I’m building. I’m still learning and evolving, but I’m proud that I’ve continued moving forward without compromising the vision I have for Beauty Icon.

We’ve been impressed with Beauty Icon Skin , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m the Founder and CEO of Beauty Icon Skin, a San Diego–based beauty brand created around the belief that everyday body care should feel luxurious.

Our signature product is Whip Luxe Body Soufflé, a rich, whipped moisturizer created to give you the nourishment of a body butter with a softer, more elevated experience. It’s formulated with ingredients like shea and kokum butters and nourishing oils, and our fragrance-forward collection allows body care to become part of how you wear and experience fragrance.

What sets Beauty Icon apart is the full sensory experience. You see the hydration, you see the shine and glow, you feel the softness, and you smell like fine fragrance. I wanted to create something that makes taking care of your skin feel less like a routine and more like a luxury ritual.

As the founder, I’m involved in every part of the brand—from product development and fragrance selection to packaging, creative direction, customer experience, and the overall vision of Beauty Icon Skin.

What I’m most proud of is taking an idea for a product I wished I could find in stores and actually bringing it to life. Every jar represents something that started as an idea and became a real product that people can experience and love.

I’m building Beauty Icon with a much larger vision in mind. I want to grow from a San Diego–based brand into a nationally recognized beauty brand and ultimately see Beauty Icon Skin on retail shelves, giving more women the opportunity to Elevate Their Everyday.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is my family, traveling, creating a life I’m proud of, and being able to enjoy the moments in between.

I’m happiest when I’m surrounded by the people I love—my husband, my son, my dad, and sister. They are a huge part of my motivation and the reason I continue to dream bigger for myself.

I also find happiness in creating. There is something incredibly fulfilling about having an idea in your mind and watching it become real. Building Beauty Icon Skin has given me a new sense of purpose and has shown me how rewarding it can be to bet on yourself and pursue something that genuinely excites you.

But I’ve also learned that happiness isn’t only found in big accomplishments. It’s in the little things too, traveling, laughing with my family, getting dressed up, discovering a beautiful fragrance, enjoying a good meal, or simply having a peaceful moment to myself.

At this stage of my life, happiness is really about family, freedom, purpose, and being present enough to enjoy what I’m building while I’m building it.
