Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Chapman & Marbella Ryan.
Madison & Marbella, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We’ve been best friends since 6th grade and both graduated from Coronado High School in 2022. After graduation, our paths took us in different directions. Marbella took a gap year to travel, while Madison moved to Oahu, Hawaii, to earn her Yoga and Pilates instructor certifications.
The following summer, we both came back home and reconnected. Madison began teaching Yoga and Pilates at a few studios in San Diego, and Marbella attended nearly all of her classes. After a few months Marbella moved to Hawaii to begin her Yoga and Pilates instructor training, and shortly after, Madison returned to Hawaii as well. We eventually started teaching at the same studio in Hawaii and became roommates.
When we came home for Christmas, we decided we wanted to share our passion for Yoga and Pilates with the community we grew up in. For Madison, Yoga and Pilates became a path to healing many injuries from years of competitive cheerleading. For Marbella, Yoga had always been a part of her life through her family, helping her find balance and growth in many ways.
Together, we felt inspired to open a studio of both Yoga and Pilates in Coronado, with the hope of creating a space where others in our hometown could experience the same benefits and transformation that Yoga and Pilates have brought us.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, the journey has been smooth, though at times a little overwhelming. Every challenge reminded us why we wanted to bring Yoga and Pilates back home to Coronado and create a space for healing, connection, and growth. Navigating the steps of opening our first business came with its hurdles, but having a deep understanding of each other allowed us to balance strengths and weaknesses, support one another, and work through everything together. Each obstacle made the process more meaningful, strengthening our commitment to the vision of this studio and to building something that truly serves our community
We’ve been impressed with Cays Yoga & Pilates, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our studio is all about making Yoga and Pilates accessible and welcoming for everyone. We offer classes seven days a week with a wide range of times to fit any schedule. Weekdays range from 6AM-6PM class times and weekends 9AM, 10AM and 5pm. We also offer a variety of class modalities designed for every level so people can find what works best for them.
A few things that set us apart from other studios are our location and sense of connection. Nestled in the Coronado Cays, our studio overlooks the bay, creating a peaceful and serene atmosphere. We also offer ample free parking, so members can arrive relaxed without the stress of searching for a spot or paying for parking. What truly makes us different, though, is that as studio owners we’re not just behind the scenes, we’re on the mat with our community, teaching, guiding, and sharing the practices that have been so transformative in our own lives. We wanted this studio to feel personal and connected, not just a place to take a class, but a place where people feel seen, supported, and inspired.
What we’re most proud of is that our studio feels like home. A space where everyone can come as they are and leave feeling better, stronger, and more balanced. At the heart of it all is community. Our members and instructors truly support one another, celebrating milestones in and out of the studio and building friendships that go beyond class. This isn’t just our business, it’s our heart and passion, and we’re so grateful to share it with our hometown community.
What does success mean to you?
We define success by the joy of sharing our passion and the difference it makes in our community’s daily lives. We feel most successful when someone walks out of class feeling stronger, more balanced, or simply more at peace than when they walked in. Success isn’t about growth in numbers, it’s about the impact we have on our community. When members tell us the studio feels like home, when they support one another beyond the mat, and when we see the connections and confidence they build, that’s what fulfills us. If we can inspire even one person to feel more connected to themselves through Yoga or Pilates, then we’ve done what we set out to do.
