Exploring Life & Business with Margarita of Carbon Agency

Today we’d like to introduce you to Margarita.

Hi Margarita , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Tijuana, México, and I’ve always been drawn to storytelling and visuals. I was fascinated by how an idea could turn into a full strategy and eventually materialize into something real. That passion led me to study both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in graphic design.

Over time, I realized that what really excited me wasn’t just the design itself, but the entire process-seeing all the different pieces come together. I loved collaborating with copywriters, developers, and designers, and finding ways to make that process smoother and more efficient. I also discovered I had a knack for keeping clients connected to the progress in a way that built trust and momentum. That’s when I knew project management in the creative space was where I wanted to focus my career.

In 2019, my partner and I decided to bring an idea we had been talking about for years to life, and that’s how Carbón Agency was born. It felt like the right time to create something that truly reflected our vision of how creative work should be done.

Today, as CEO, what I love most is the people, the relationships we’ve built with our team and clients, and the opportunity to help others grow and succeed in what they do best. I think one thing that often surprises people is that I deeply understand both the creative and technical sides of what we do. That perspective helps me better estimate timelines and deliverables and bridge the gap between vision and execution.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a perfectly smooth road, but I think that’s true for most meaningful journeys. In the beginning, there’s always that uncertainty of whether things will work out the way you envision. And then, of course, the pandemic brought a whole new level of challenge, something completely out of anyone’s control.

Those were definitely tough moments, but instead of letting fear take over, we focused on what we love to do. We stayed committed to our clients, to our craft, and trusted that if we kept showing up and doing great work, things would fall into place. Looking back, those challenges really helped shape who we are today as a team and as a company.

We’ve been impressed with Carbon Agency, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Carbón Agency is a creative agency based in San Diego, California. We’ve been in business for six years, but our team brings over two decades of experience in the creative field. We specialize in branding and web design, helping businesses find their voice, define their identity, and create digital experiences that truly connect with their audience.

What sets us apart is our process. We’re not just focused on making things look good; we care deeply about strategy, storytelling, and execution. Every project we take on is rooted in understanding our clients’ goals, their audience, and how design can drive real results.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the relationships we’ve built. Many of our clients have grown with us over the years, and that trust means everything. At Carbón, we see ourselves as partners, not just vendors. We become an extension of each client’s team, helping them grow through thoughtful design and strategy.

Ultimately, what I’d want readers to know is that our work goes beyond aesthetics, it’s about creating meaningful, lasting impact through creativity, collaboration, and purpose-driven design.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice would be not to get discouraged by people (even family or friends) who might not fully understand or support your vision at first. Do it for you!

Most importantly, find what truly makes you happy and excited to wake up every day. There will always be challenges, but when you genuinely love what you do, those challenges become part of the growth, not the setback.
