Exploring Life & Business with Olesia Matiushchenko of Sphere Photo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olesia Matiushchenko.

Olesia Matiushchenko

Hi Olesia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My background starts in the IT industry where I was managing engineering teams to build great software products. As a seasoned project manager I’ve always harbored a dream of spearheading my own project and bringing something truly remarkable to life. Recently, that dream took shape as I discovered the concept of self-portrait photo studios. Motivated by further exploration, I resolved to infuse my own vision into the concept. Thus, the idea of establishing Sphere Photo Studio was born—a sanctuary where individuals can authentically express themselves, uncover their unique identities, and foster a profound sense of self-worth.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Over the course of a year, the journey from idea to implementation unfolded with careful precision. My aim was to meticulously curate every aspect, ensuring excellence from studio interior design to the seamless process of the photoshoot and delivering professionally edited photos promptly to offer affordability to our audience. To achieve this, I handpicked top-tier designers, photographers, and contractors, assembling a team of experts dedicated to upholding the highest standards of quality and cultivating a welcoming studio atmosphere.

We are still meeting some challenges, of course. For example, one of our ongoing challenges includes the vital task of educating the people of San Diego about this revolutionary concept. I believe that by cultivating a culture of self-confidence and empowerment and challenging traditional beauty norms we can encourage individuals to embrace their unique value.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Sphere Photo?
At Sphere Photo, we bring an innovative concept to the photoshoot. The concept revolves around a meticulously designed studio experience. Upon arrival, individuals are guided to a specially curated room where they prepare themselves for the session. They then proceed to a private photo zone featuring a strikingly large mirror, state-of-the-art lighting, and a discreetly positioned professional camera. This setup ensures an immersive experience where the focus remains solely on self-reflection and self-expression. Utilizing a user-friendly clicker, individuals can capture a myriad of images, embracing their authentic selves without inhibition.

We offer 2 types of Photo experience: Self-Portrait and Seasonal packages. The Seasonal package includes a special set-up based on holidays (e.g., this month, we’re doing a set-up for the upcoming Mother’s Day). Also, there is an opportunity to choose a duration of the photoshoot between 30min, 45min, and 60min. Talking about the photographs – we send all of the pictures taken within the chosen timeframe edited within 24h to clients’ email. They receive a link to an online gallery and can download all the pictures in high resolution from there.

In essence, our venture represents more than just a business endeavor; it embodies a movement towards self-acceptance, empowerment, and holistic well-being. By providing a sanctuary for self-discovery and expression, we aspire to catalyze positive change in the lives of countless women, nurturing a collective sense of confidence, resilience, and authenticity.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I would say I’m still learning and would specifically emphasize Grit and Persistence here: turning an idea into life requires immense grit and persistence. As an entrepreneur, you often encounter challenges that test your resolve, from securing funding to overcoming regulatory hurdles to building a customer base. I believe that only those who persist in the face of adversity and are moving forward are on the journey to succeed. As Mr. Winston Churchill said, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.”
