Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Scira and Katie Picazo.
Hi Olivia and Katie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We have a unique story as we are a rare partnership in business that has been successful! We are two friends that chatted over a play date over 9 years ago about opening a Pilates studio together. There was no planning or deliberating over it. The day after the play date, we called each other and said, ‘Let’s do it.’ We just celebrated our 9 years in business, have 2 locations, and are opening up our 3 studio this summer.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being in a partnership is never a smooth road. There is give and take. We have the same core values and respect and that has gotten us to where we are today. We definitely struggled in 2020 and almost closed one of our locations. With our community support, that location is now our busiest!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Pilates Co.?
We offer group Pilates classes as well as private lessons. Our style is athletic, and our instructors are the best around. Our classes offer a low-impact, results-driven, full-body workout in an inclusive setting. We are most known for our community that we have created. It is like family, and you are invited to the table. We are known for our free community events in Wine Country…Pilates + Wine is a good time! We have had dozens of community events over the years at many different local wineries. We are most proud of our customer service brand-wide. We are owner operated, and both of us have worked every aspect of the job and still do! From answering the phones to bookkeeping, running our social media, teaching classes, event planning, and deep cleaning the studios, we know the importance of being present and hands-on. We have had many private events at our studio from people coming up from San Diego for a weekend in wine country for bridal showers, bachelorette parties, or just a fun weekend getaway.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
We both grew up in San Diego, and our families are still there. We love the variety of things to do. We are short 45–60-minute drive and can do a whole day of fun. We both have young kids, so we never run out of things to do in SD. Our favorite is camping in our trailers on Mission Bay and eating at all of the amazing local restaurants.
