Today, we’d like to introduce you to Sandi Star.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was diagnosed in my late 30s with an autoimmune condition and had suffered for years with migraines and GI distress. I had reached a point where a conventional medicine approach was not helping, and I was getting worse. I started to look into a holistic approach and found some great support, and after integrating a gluten and cow-dairy-free diet as well as natural remedies, I was on the mend.
I wanted to learn as much as possible without having to rely on other providers, so I went back to school and became a nutritionist and holistic practitioner. I started my own business and through the 15 years helping others heal I evolved to where I am today. I wrote Beyond Gluten: A Healing Transition and published my book in 2017.
About a year ago, I took on a challenging but rewarding position as the business manager for an integrative medical practice called Del Mar Integrative Medicine & Med Spa to help create a new business model that has a unique approach in that we are able to practice integrative medicine using PPO’s and Medicare insurance. We are able to get to the root cause and provide natural remedies such as nutrient IV’s. The model allows us to practice preventative medicine for optimal health.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been an easy road. With any business, you have to be willing to pivot when needed to grow. I have worked in a few practices with doctors as a provider myself, and made a yummy food product that made it into Whole Foods, Mother Markets, and several health food stores, which was quite an accomplishment; however, it did not pan out financially.
I knew after five years that my passion wasn’t the food industry, even though I was at the forefront of the gluten-free industry. My passion has always been to help people heal and work on their health struggles with them. When you have a passion for something, it makes sense to stay in that lane. What I’ve learned is that with my experience and education, I can do many things.
The goal is always the same. Helping people heal!

I specialize in getting to the root cause of chronic health conditions and inflammation and see a selected few at the moment while I grow the Del Mar practice.
With patients being able to get holistic care integrated with primary care using insurance, it makes sense to continue the journey at Del Mar Integrative Medicine using most PPOs and Medicare, so we are able to help so many more people with little to no cost to the patient.
From the beginning my main goal is to create awareness that impacts our nation’s focus on disease prevention with a holistic approach. Conventional medicine is not the solution for long term health.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Dr. Arnold Kremer, DO, who I have been working with for close to 5 years now, has been a great partner in combining our expertise. Dr Kremer is the medical director of Del Mar Integrative Medicine and has been a great mentor and friend.
We have revamped the practice to do integrative, naturopathic medicine and primary care using insurance. We also do regenerative medicine where we do stem cell therapy and have a med spa. I call it a one-stop shop for all your healthcare needs. I also love and appreciate those who have trusted me with their health and allowed me to be on their healing journey with them over the past 15 years. It is a true honor.
My husband has been my number one fan and support for the past 15 years on this adventure, and without him, I would not have been able to take all the chances I did. Mostly, I have to thank Jesus for giving me strength, vision, and support! I would never have accomplished what I have without him nor would I want to.
