Exploring Life & Business with Skyler Greyson of Rugged Coffee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Skyler Greyson.

Hi Skyler, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I started Rugged Coffee back in 2016 with not much to my name. I built my own coffee cart and didn’t even have an espresso machine, so I started offering hot brewed coffee and cold brewed coffee, selling my catering services for real cheap, just to get my name out there. After my first few events, I was able to purchase a used espresso machine and borrow a grinder so that I could start selling my services for a slightly higher price point while continuing to keep building upon what I had. Getting more and better equipment and constantly trying to improve the quality that I offer.

When starting my catering business, I couldn’t just rely on it solely for my income, so I spent the first 5 1/2 years working full-time at a corporate coffee company as their Coffee Educator while building my presence in the coffee catering industry. After learning how to best market my company, loads of prayer to the Almighty, and a lot of faith, I was able to quit my job and go full-time with Rugged Coffee.

It’s been over a year now, working for myself, and business is constantly picking up. I am always trying to think outside of the box to better forge ahead with growth and constantly finding new ways to improve the quality of the product I serve. I can’t be more thankful for where I am at with my business. It takes the help of your friends and family, and it takes your listening skills to hear where Jesus is leading you.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road getting this business off the ground, but having patience and drive really helped this company stick it out through the hard times. The thing I found most difficult was marketing and accounting, but once I figured that out, then things really started to fall in line.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Rugged Coffee?

I am proud that at Rugged Coffee, we are able to create delicious beverages, quickly while having a great time doing it. We know that catering events is all about getting the guest in and out as quickly as possible so that they can go enjoy the event they are at with the most delicious coffee they’ve ever had in their hands.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I have learned that fear is such a powerful tool that the corrupt bureaucrats and politicians will use to their advantage and that faith in God is the only way to overcome that fear. Overcoming that fear helped me to continue to offer my catering services, even through the pandemic, and to stay persistent with growing my company.
