Today we’d like to introduce you to Star Quinones.
Hi Star, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I was a powerlifter that competed through my last 2 pregnancies. Unfortunately, due to some underlying issues, I am no longer competing in powerlifting. But I can vouch for the amazing community of strong people!
I decided to get my personal training certification during the covid shutdown and help other local women get strong.
Since I don’t accept that sitting back and floating through fitness is acceptable (I’m speaking for myself here) I decided to give bodybuilding a go. To my surprise, I really enjoyed that process. I’m currently eyeballing 2023 shows!
Competitions are a great way to add to your resume as a coach. Being active in what you are teaching and preaching is a great way to be an example to your clients.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s never smooth or linear, is it? There are always setbacks. I skipped the 2022 show season because we just bought a house. Which is a great and wonderful responsibility! When it comes to choosing your personal life and a competition, always choose to invest in your personal responsibilities first.
Another struggle was allowing myself to eat. Let’s face it, in bodybuilding; you garner attention with your looks. You’re critiqued from head to toe. So, seeing a bulkier version of myself can really get inside my head.
You just have to remind yourself that struggles are for a season. But when it’s time to commit, you have to leave the baggage at the door and go full throttle.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about StarQ Coaching?
I specialize in in-person strength and conditioning. What sets me apart is my passion for helping people understand that they are truly capable. Capable of being strong, capable of being committed to their goals. I am most proud of being in the trenches with my clients. Good coaches also need good coaches. I can only be a good coach to someone if I’m continuously learning and taking in as much as I can.
My clients know that with me, there is tough love, honesty, and compassion.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I hope this industry continues to grow. People want to do something with their health. I hope they make the choice to partner with a great coach or gym. The sacrifice toward better health and better movement is a gift that keeps on giving. It means so much more when a person decides they are willing to do the work.
