Today we’d like to introduce you to Vianney Yamada.
Hi Vianney, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Derrick and I have been active in the San Diego fitness industry since 2014. We closed our first fitness facility in July of 2021. Going back to the drawing board, we tested a new concept of small group, semi-private training, from our garage. Our goal was to offer a higher value coaching service to a smaller class size so that we could help our clients move more effectively and receive the attention to detail that they deserved. A class size of 4 participants, max, allowed us to offer this high level coaching and truly maximize each client’s daily experience.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Closing our first gym in 2021 was a tough time. There were obviously some logistics working against us due to Pandemic related issues and restrictions. The tough time forced us to look at what we were offering, what our strong suits were and where we were weak. We opted to focus on what our strength was, fine-tuned workouts with high level warm-ups, instruction and movement correction. This naturally led us to move away from large group instruction into the arena of semi-private training. Getting started again after closing one gym did take a leap of faith. There were a lot of uncertainties both external and internal. We decided to look at our past experience as one of learning instead of as a failure. We drew upon that experience as we devised our business plan. We made adjustments that prioritized our family life and created a gym that could serve our family instead of ask everything of us at all times. We’ve been blessed to find wonderful coaches whom we trust, that share our Mission and Core Values. Niko, Jacalynn, and Shelsea represent the gym gracefully and we see a bright future with this team and fitness concept.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our purpose is to inspire a healthy and active lifestyle in the community, empowering our clients and staff to be the best version of themselves, by offering high value small group training sessions.
Our 4 client to 1 coach, semi-private classes, allow our coaches to give each client the attention and personalization they’d expect from a 1-on-1 experience with the power and fun of a group atmosphere. Our coaches are highly skilled and trained to handle the requirements to deliver this experience helping our clients get the results they’re looking for, maximize their value while being very cost effective.
We’re extremely proud of the experience we offer in each hour long class. Our coaches work the entire hour, skipping zero stages of a complete workout, and delivering the highest attention to detail. We check all of the boxes with our 4 phase warmups, strength and conditioning workouts, ending with focused cool-downs. Once you try it you’ll feel the difference and your body will appreciate it.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
We love San Diego because the community embraces fitness. With the great weather comes the opportunity to apply your fitness outdoors year around. We hope to compliment our client’s active lifestyles. We strive to build you up in the gym so you can handle everything you venture into our of it.
