We’re looking forward to introducing you to Gina Trotto. Check out our conversation below.
Gina , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I start my day with my chi kung practice, followed by my boxing session. In the past, I would wake up feeling overwhelmed by anxiety and depression, making it tough to start the day on a positive note. After struggling with these feelings, I turned to practices that help me live a happier, healthier life. Now, every morning, I begin with chi kung, where the slow, mindful movements and focused breathing create a calm space for my mind. Then, I shift to boxing, throwing punches to fight off my anxiety and lift my spirits. This balance of calm and energy sets a positive tone for the day, helping me embrace life with hope and gratitude.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi there! I’m Gina Trotto, a Latina actor who embarked on an exciting journey 15 years ago when I moved from Mexico City to California. I kicked things off by learning English at Grossmont Community College in La Mesa—what a ride that was! Navigating the ups and downs of breaking down cultural and language barriers has been challenging, but I truly believe in the power of hard work and determination. I’m always striving to improve my pronunciation, allowing me to take on a wider range of roles and seize even more opportunities in the acting world. I’m passionate about representing my culture through my work and connecting with others through storytelling. Right now, I’m laser-focused on honing my craft and diving into exciting new projects that showcase the rich diversity of our experiences. I can’t wait to share more of my journey with you all!
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was when I was in my early twenties. I fully committed myself to a fitness contest, demonstrating incredible discipline and perseverance over a strict six-month regimen of exercise and diet. It required a lot of dedication, and I gave it my all. When I won third place in my first competition, it was a turning point for me. I learned that hard work truly pays off and that I can achieve anything I set my mind to, as long as I’m willing to commit 100%. It taught me that the only limits we face are the ones we set for ourselves
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering is the greatest teacher. There comes a point when the pain becomes so intense that it can escalate from a simple headache or migraine to chronic body aches and illness. I experienced a time when I faced facial paralysis due to overwhelming stress and suffering. During that challenging period, I learned the importance of letting go and trusting in God. Suffering has taught me valuable lessons about resilience and the power of acceptance—lessons that success alone could never impart.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
What matters most to me is my family, whose unwavering support fuels my passion for acting. Through my craft, I strive to connect with those who feel alone or misunderstood, particularly in matters of emotional and mental health. My main goal is to create films and tell stories that resonate with people, making them feel seen and understood. By shining a light on these important issues, I hope to foster a sense of connection and healing for others.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What will you regret not doing?
If there’s one thing I would really regret, it’s not following my biggest passion: acting. As a Latina actress living in San Diego, acting isn’t just something I do; it’s a big part of who I am. I love telling stories and connecting with different people.
Every time I step on stage or in front of a camera, I get to share my culture and my experiences. If I ever decided to stop acting, I know I’d miss out on a huge part of my life and the chance to inspire others. So, I’ll keep going after my dreams and give my all to this journey because it means everything to me. So my advice to you is “Believe in yourself” never stop and follow your heart !!!
