Hi Aaron, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I feel grateful to have found my professional path early—and even more grateful that I genuinely love what I do. But I know that’s not the case for everyone, and I’ve always felt the desire to help others discover their own passion. After spending 30 years in marketing and public relations, I decided to enroll in a local certification program for life and career coaching, which ultimately led me to starting a second business. What excites me about combining these two paths is how naturally they complement one another. In marketing, clients hire you to develop and execute a plan for them. As a life coach, however, the work is about guiding clients through a series of powerful questions to uncover what they truly want and then helping them move toward it. Many people tie their identity to their careers, and when things don’t go well, they can feel stuck, unmotivated, or undervalued. Change can be overwhelming—even paralyzing—which is why so many hesitate to seek support. That’s where coaching makes a difference. Each person holds the answer to their own success, but as a coach, I can support and empower you on a journey of transformation that helps you realize your goals. Over the past five years, I’ve had the privilege of helping dozens of clients navigate everything from job loss to bold career changes, empowering them to create fulfilling new paths.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Launching a new business always comes with challenges, but having launched my first venture in 2009, I felt more confident stepping into a second one. One of the greatest hurdles this time around has been creating awareness of the company and establishing a client base, which was especially challenging since I had recently moved from Chicago to San Diego. This was especially true during the pandemic, when uncertainty made many people cautious about investing in non-essential services. At the same time, the pandemic encouraged many folks to reevaluate their priorities and restructure their lives in ways that better aligned with their needs and goals. Today, tools like AI—and even ChatGPT—also have people believing they can solve most challenges on their own. And while technology can be a useful resource, it’s not a complete solution. In my view, nothing replaces genuine human connection. A coach brings the ability to listen deeply and respond to both verbal and non-verbal cues—something no tool can fully replicate.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I founded TCW with a simple mission: to help people make meaningful decisions and create lasting, positive change in both their personal and professional lives.
