Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Cassidy.
Hi Alex, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started lifting weights when i was around 15, i wanted to just be as jacked as possible and that was my mission! But slowly i started to learn about calisthenics and handstands and it always would stick out in the back of my mind as something i really wanted to do. So eventually I started slowly training handstands and calisthenics until eventually thats the only way I trained. I did this on my own for about a year before realizing I needed help. I started reaching out to coaches and that snowballed into me traveling the world to take handstand workshops and paying a lot of money to work with some of the best calisthenic/ handstand coaches I could find. Eventually, I found center for balanced training in pacific beach and became a regular there. I went an trained there everyday for about a year until the owner decided to move away and give me his business. I took it on and now im trying to find/ grow a community of people who want to master their bodyweight! Our main focus is handstands, gymnastic strength training, and flexibility, that’s how I train and how all of my clients train as well.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some struggles were learning to be an authority in this space, proving that I was someone to be trusted/ listened to.
Another one (that is still a struggle for me) is learning to become a business owner. It takes an entire different set of knowledge that I just didnt have (and am still expanding upon).
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about AleksLighthouse?
Im a Handstand/Calisthenics coach who trains out of an amazing space in pacific beach “Center for Balanced Training”
If you have ever gone to the beach( which I hope you have if you live in San Diego haha) then you’ve likely seen people attempting to kick up into a handstand. Most of the time unsuccessfully or not very consistently. It’s something thats contagious, you might have even felt like when you saw someone else try, you wanted to try yourself.
What I do is help those people actually LAND those attempts and HOLD them!
I think what sets my training and our space apart from others is that we pride ourselves on truly creating results with bodyweight training through systems that are time-tested and work. Ive looked long and far on my own to find people who had some structure to creating consistent results and inserted myself into those communities, now making their methods my own and helping others achieve their dream moves!
Any big plans?
My plan for the future is to create a larger class schedule, get those classes filled until I can hire some more coaches, and slowly start filling our space up with people passionate about movement!
