Hidden Gems: Meet Alicia Terrones of WonderGlam Balloons

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Terrones.

Hi Alicia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
WonderGlam Balloons was born in December 2021 in my living room; with a humble Amazon balloon kit, a touch of delusion, and a loving mamá wanting to make her little one’s second birthday more special than her first.

I watched videos on YouTube, Instagram reels, and bought the iconic hot pink and blue electronic inflator. Very quickly I realized there was a finesse to making balloon garlands— this is an art form! My cuticles were cut, multiple balloons popped, balloons were oddly shaped — but I was so proud of that garland!

Shortly after I came across a “Balloon Garland for Beginners” Class and called it a sign! Fast forward almost four years later and we still have the same pride in our craft as the day we started.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. It’s been more like a trail of peaks and valleys, but those climbs have given me some of the best views. This journey has pushed me to grow not only as a business owner, but as a person.

One of the biggest challenges has been comparison. There are so many talented balloon artists in San Diego, and the community keeps growing. I actually love seeing that, because it means the industry is thriving, not fading. But with growth comes that inner tug-of-war of finding your own voice and trusting that the right clients will find you. The ones who see the value, the care, and the craft, not just the price tag.
Staying in that positive mindset hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been worth it. Every time a client recognizes the heart behind my work, it feels like confirmation that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about WonderGlam Balloons?
WonderGlam Balloons isn’t just about balloon design. It’s about the full experience from the first message to the final backdrop reveal. Whether you find me on Instagram, spot my work at an event, or catch me jumping into a conversation because I heard the words “balloon décor,” my goal is always the same: I want you to feel like you’re talking to your best friend. Someone you can be honest with. Someone you can trust with the vision in your head.
I ask questions. I send color palettes. I offer options. I make edits without ego. I want the process to feel like watching your Pinterest board come alive piece by piece.

On the day of your event, I bring the same energy. I treat every install with the same care I poured into my own child’s first celebration. As a first-time mom, creating something that became part of my child’s core memories changed me. That’s why I do this. I want to give that same magic to other families, while taking every bit of stress off your plate.

My objective is to get you to step into your event feeling beautiful, present, and excited! When you look back at your photos, you think, “That was everything I wanted.”

I’m most proud that WonderGlam Balloons doesn’t deliver cookie-cutter, copy-and-paste backdrops. Every installation is thoughtfully designed with personalized details that remind clients why they chose a professional service.

Our services range from classic single-panel backdrops to elaborate custom vinyl walls, floral designs, and table decor. There’s no limit to what we can create or how it can be personalized. Every design is inspired by you—your vision, your style—but always tailored to be uniquely yours.

Every detail is thoughtfully crafted to bring a little wonder and a lot of glam!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I can remember having a very determined mind some might call it stubborn. If you were to look at my homework you’d see doodles and drawings along the sides of the pages and on my report card under notes you’d probably find “Likes to talk… a lot!”. Guilty!

I loved asking questions, helping wherever I could, and figuring out how to make or do new things. Looking back, those habits were tiny seeds that grew into the traits I rely on now: curiosity, creativity, persistence, and the drive to always keep learning.
