Hi Alvin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to the United States from the Philippines at the age of 18. Just three days after arriving, I started working using my passport, which allowed me to legally work in the U.S. My first job was as a pot washer at Coffee Ambassador. Over the years, I worked my way up—first as a technician, then warehouse manager, and eventually operations manager. At 32, I completed my adult education through UCSD Extension, majoring in Marketing and Business.
After 19 years at Coffee Ambassador, I lost my job due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Determined to reinvent myself, I began a new chapter in financial services with Premier Financial Alliance. In just five years, I became a Qualified Field Director, helping clients with life insurance and IRAs featuring living benefits. I now lead a team of 12 licensed agents across 17 states. Together, we manage over $500 million in life insurance policies and $7 million in IRAs. I’m proud to be among the top 5% of earners in the company, receiving multiple performance bonuses and incentive trips—including to Greece, Turkey (2024), and Australia (2025).
I’ve lived in San Diego for over 30 years and remain actively involved in the community. I participate in concerts and events supporting nonprofits such as the House of the Philippines in Balboa Park and police department–sponsored foundations. As a performer and emcee, I’ve been honored to travel across the country for public and private events, singing and hosting.
Family remains at the heart of my life. I maintain close relationships with my large extended family both in the Philippines and in San Diego. I feel incredibly blessed to have been raised by a hardworking mother who sacrificed so much, and a devoted father who did everything he could to provide for us.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My first decade in the U.S. was challenging—I faced discrimination and language barriers, as English was my second language. But through hard work and by surrounding myself with people who helped me grow, the last two decades have been incredible. I’ve gone from speaking one language to four, including American Sign Language. The journey wasn’t easy, but with the support of my family, friends, and mentors across different industries, I’ve continued to grow and thrive
