Today we’d like to introduce you to Briana Leon
Hi Briana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hi, my name is Briana, but some people call me Bri or Bri Bri. I’m a licensed Cosmetologist who is born and raised in Southeast San Diego . I’ve always believed that finding your passion is a journey, and mine led me to the beauty industry. After exploring different paths, I discovered my love for cosmetology and only wish I started sooner!
I started at a community college after high school but quickly realized it wasn’t for me. I took some time to figure out my true passion and, after speaking with a few hairstylists, decided to enroll at California Hair Design Academy in La Mesa. Midway through the program, I got my first opportunity to assist with being another braider at a braiding booth for an event, which helped me start building connections.
Shortly after the event, I was in a solo car accident that set me back, but I was determined to finish school on time. Through the connections I made, I secured a spot at Millionaires HQ in Logan Heights, where I began taking my own clients. Wanting to expand my skills, I attended education classes at Hera the Salon and later reached out for an assistant position once I finally got my cosmetology license. Around that time, I experienced two heartbreaking family losses, which paused my journey, but I knew I had to keep pushing forward.
Assisting at Hera has helped me refine my skills while continuing to grow my clientele at Millionaires HQ. Through hard work and perseverance, I’ve built strong connections with clients, colleagues, and mentors, and I truly cherish the community I’ve developed in this hair industry. There is only so much more I have in store for my business and can’t wait to share with you all!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life comes with obstacles that shape who we are. After high school, I started community college but soon realized it wasn’t the right path for me. Taking time to reflect, I decided to pursue cosmetology, which required financial sacrifices, including relocating myself. I was eager to start and quickly found a passion for it.
Halfway through the program, I was in a car accident that totaled my vehicle. Thankfully, I wasn’t injured, but I had to overcome financial setbacks to stay in school. With family support and loans, I got back on track and pushed through moments of doubt to earn my cosmetology license.
Shortly after, I experienced the unexpected loss of two close family members. It was an emotional challenge, but I reminded myself why I started and kept moving forward. Through financial struggles, personal loss, and self-doubt, I stayed committed to my passion. Life brings challenges, but I’ve learned to adapt, grow, and persevere.
We’ve been impressed with BriBri’s Touch, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
BriBri’s Touch is more than just a name—it’s a reflection of my passion and personal connection to every style I create. My main specialty is braiding, a skill that many in the industry don’t offer or master. I also provide haircuts, styling, coloring, blonding, treatments, dermaplaning facials and scalp massages. I’m continuously expanding my expertise, exploring services like hair extensions and product knowledge to enhance my offerings.
What sets me apart is my dedication to not just styling hair, but creating an experience where every client feels confident and valued. My brand is built on precision, care, and a personal touch that makes each style unique. I believe in continuous growth—whether through new services, industry opportunities, or community involvement. BriBri’s Touch is all about passion, creativity, and making every client feel their best.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The Covid-19 crisis made me realize the importance of hands-on learning and how it impacts my motivation and growth. Community college shifted mainly to online and Zoom classes, which didn’t feel like the right fit for me, leading me to take a break and rethink my career path. Once in-person learning resumed, I decided to pursue cosmetology, where I could thrive in a hands-on environment. This experience taught me the value of adaptability and finding the right learning style to truly excel in my passion.
