Hidden Gems: Meet Christopher Lynch of Everyday California

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Lynch. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Believe it or not, the Great Recession of 2008 was the best thing that ever happened to us. We lost all hope of finding a career out of college and ended up on the beach, unemployed. With nothing to lose, we took a leap of faith and started a small ocean adventure company.

Everyday California began as little more than a few kayaks, an old pick-up truck, and a few guys running discounted adventure tours, booking appointments in between cleaning gear and taking people out on the water.

After some success, we found a space to open up our first shop. It was just larger than 500 square feet and had a ton of, well, let’s call it “character.” But it was a start.

Since then, we’ve grown into a full-fledged adventure & apparel lifestyle brand. We employ over 100+ employees doing everything from tours, rentals, and lessons to branding, design, marketing, and sales. We take over 75,000 customers a year on the ocean, sell our apparel online all over the world and have just recently launched our new reef safe mineral sunscreen line.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are struggles in every new business and our company is no exception. Early on our toughest struggles came in the winter months when our adventure business would slow to a crawl and our profits would dip into the red. But what grew out of those months of hardship was the brand and apparel side of our business. We realized that we needed to be more than just a seasonal adventure company and its what’s helped propel us forward.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Everyday California is a La Jolla-based lifestyle company that’s rooted in adventure – from ocean excursions on one of the best coastlines in the world, to California-inspired apparel and gear.

Operated by managing partners Christopher Lynch and Michael Samer, the company is committed to making fun happen, creating cool products and using business to improve the environment. Everyday California’s adventure business includes guided kayak tours, surf lessons and water equipment rentals in La Jolla Shores, Calif, while its apparel business caters to men, women and kids, with products sold in select stores and online. Rooted in adventure, Everyday California is committed to contributing positively to its community and environment in a sustainable way through daily operations, materials and cool collaborations that give back.
