Today we’d like to introduce you to Colin & Dewi Simpson.
Hi Colin & Dewi, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Hi, yeah we are Colin and Dewi and we run a design studio called Campground. The idea for our studio started around a campfire right after our college graduation. Our group of friends, all designer graduates, went camping to celebrate as our last hurrah before all going our separate ways. We started talking about what kind of design agencies we’d like to work at, where we’d imagine we would thrive in. So, we made a pact, if in ten years we weren’t happy where we’re at, we’d all come together and start a design agency.
10 years went by, and with the pandemic, we decided to go for it and launch our agency.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business is never easy, but we have both been freelancing on the side of our current design jobs over the years. We had built up a network of colleagues and client referrals, so it made the transition easier. It’s always a risk striking it out on your own, but after a decade in the industry, we were ready to create something that was truly ours. Plus, starting a family made us want to build something that could give us creative freedom and flexibility. I think that’s what really drove us, it made overcoming the day-to-day struggles all worth it.

Campground is a design studio that specializes in creating brands and experiences for bold companies. As a hands-on, creative partner, we strengthen and invigorate brands through effective strategy and thoughtful design. We offer our clients an array of design services from branding, illustration to custom websites and mobile apps.
We’re proud of the high-quality service and work we provide. It really sets us apart, and we get feedback that we go above and beyond to make sure our clients are completely happy with the process and end product.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
We are a small agency. Our clients work with us, the designers, directly. We think that’s what makes the experience of working with us unique. We create a personal and collaborative relationship with our clients so we can better serve them. When we create a site or a brand, we aim to create a design that best represents not only who they are but who they aspire to be. Our end goal is solving design challenges that will catapult our clients’ businesses to grow and succeed.
