Hidden Gems: Meet Conor Foley of FFIT

Today we’d like to introduce you to Conor Foley.

Hi Conor, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Manhattan Beach, CA and was exposed to sports very early on. I settled on volleyball where I ended up playing at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. In 2013, I graduated with a BS in Kinesiology before taking an internship at the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) in Colorado Springs, CO. I had the opportunity to work with olympic athletes (Judo and Figure Skating), the Colorado College D1 hockey team, and the Colorado Springs SWAT team.

Upon completing my internship, I received a job to be the Director of Sports Performance at Redline Athletics in Temecula, CA. From 2015-2018, I worked with a wide range of athletes from age 8 to college baseball players in their 20’s.

Wanting to be closer to the beach, I moved to San Diego in August 2018 where I got jobs at F45 and Renegade specializing in group fitness.

When the pandemic hit in 2020 and all businesses shut down, I viewed this more as an opportunity versus a burden. I completed my Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certification and constructed a gym that lead to where my business is today!

My mission is to empower and motivate others to take steps towards bettering themselves. A healthy lifestyle is more than just working out and eating right- It’s also about practicing mindfulness, building relationships, and forming habits to help you discover the unlocked potential you never knew you had.

Life is about balance and enjoying the journey to success; whatever that success means to you. I enjoy getting you there with hard work, but with even harder laughs. I believe in getting 1% better every day throughout this journey, and letting the compound interest of success lead you to your desired goals.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest obstacle is competing with all the other gyms and personal trainers. San Diego is a very healthy and fitness focused city. So in pacific beach, in a one mile radius from my business, there are at least 8 other personal trainers, 5 class based gyms, 3 yoga studios, and 2 Pilates studios. Trying to make myself stand out amongst the competition and trying to market my services can be a challenge.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a personal trainer that focuses on 1-on-1, 2-on-1, as well as nutrition coaching. I specialize in strength, functional, and mobility training to not only making you look your best, but also having you feel your best too.

I set myself apart with the comedic nature I go about my training with my clients. My Instagram page (@conorfitandfunny) is all about giving informative knowledge with working out and nutrition while also trying to make you laugh at the same time.

I am most proud of the recognition I get my slogan I came up with that I put on my T-shirts: LIFT, Laugh, Love which is truly a testament to who I am and what I do.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Biggest risk I took was investing a lot of money in gym equipment at the end of 2020 to create a gym for clients to train out of. It truly did pay off thought because at that time, people were craving to get out of the house and interact with others while exercising as we were at the end of the pandemic. It was a necessary risk to take as there was no way I was going to establish myself as a serious personal training business owner if I had no where for my clients to train out of.

Pricing:

  • Personal Training: $70-$100/session
  • Semi-Private Training: $50-$80/session
  • Nutrition Coaching : $99-$199/month
