Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Travers.
Daniel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Drone Company San Diego grew out of the work I was already doing through Redideo Studio, a creative agency in San Diego. I’ve worked in digital media, video production, design, and marketing for over 20 years, so drone photography felt like a natural extension of the visual work I was already creating.
I became an FAA Part 107-certified drone pilot and started adding aerial photography and drone video into commercial projects for websites, social media, digital ads, real estate, events, car dealerships, and business marketing campaigns.
Over time, it made sense to give that part of the business its own focused identity. That’s how Drone Company San Diego became a vertical brand of Redideo Studio.
Today, Drone Company San Diego helps businesses capture professional aerial photos and videos throughout San Diego. The work combines licensed drone operation, video production experience, and a creative marketing background, so the visuals aren’t just cool aerial shots. They’re made to support the project, the brand, and the way the business wants to be seen.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Like a lot of small business owners, I’ve had to figure things out while doing the work at the same time.
One of the biggest challenges has been educating people on what professional drone work actually involves. From the outside, it can look like someone just shows up, flies a drone, and gets a few cool shots. In reality, there’s planning, safety, airspace checks, weather, licensing, insurance, editing, client communication, and making sure the final visuals actually support the client’s goals.
From there, another challenge has been figuring out which drone services are the most lucrative and where they provide the most value. Drone photography can be useful for real estate, car dealerships, construction, events, tourism, commercial properties, and marketing campaigns. The process has been learning which services make the most sense from a business standpoint while still matching the kind of creative work Drone Company San Diego does best.
Overall, there’s been plenty of trial and error, but that’s helped shape the business into something more focused and useful for clients.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Drone Company San Diego is a vertical brand of Redideo Studio, a creative agency in San Diego. The business focuses on professional drone photography and drone video for companies, properties, events, and marketing projects throughout San Diego.
The main thing to know is that Drone Company San Diego isn’t just about getting cool aerial shots. The work is meant to be useful. Aerial visuals can help a business show its location, property, inventory, event, construction progress, or surrounding area in a way regular ground-level photos can’t always capture.
Drone Company San Diego provides aerial photography and video for real estate, car dealerships, commercial properties, restaurants, events, construction sites, tourism, and local businesses. Because the brand is connected to Redideo Studio, the drone work can also be tied into larger creative projects like video ads, website content, social media campaigns, and digital marketing.
What sets the brand apart is the mix of licensed drone operation, video production experience, and marketing experience. I’m not approaching drone work as just a pilot. I’m looking at how the footage or photos will actually be used, whether that’s on a website, in a 30-second ad, on social media, or as part of a business campaign.
Brand-wise, I’m proud that Drone Company San Diego has become a clear, focused service under Redideo Studio. It gives clients an easy way to understand the drone side of the business while still being backed by over 20 years of creative, video, design, and marketing experience.
At the end of the day, Drone Company San Diego is here to help businesses show their space, property, project, or brand from a stronger perspective. The goal is to create professional aerial visuals that look polished, feel intentional, and give clients something they can actually use to market themselves.
How do you think about luck?
Luck has definitely played a role, but I don’t think luck works very well unless you’re already putting yourself in motion.
Some of the good luck has come from meeting the right people at the right time, getting referrals, and having past creative experience turn into new opportunities years later. A project might start as a website, video, or marketing conversation, and then lead into drone photography because there’s already trust there.
There’s also been some luck in timing. Drone photography became more accessible right around the same time businesses needed more visual content for websites, social media, digital ads, and online marketing. Since I already had a background in video production, design, and marketing, it gave me a way to bring drone work into a larger creative process.
The bad luck has mostly been the normal small business stuff: slow periods, projects falling through, changing algorithms, competitive markets, and learning that not every service is equally profitable just because it’s useful or interesting. Drone work also comes with variables you can’t always control, like weather, airspace restrictions, location issues, and scheduling.
Overall, I’d say luck has opened a few doors, but the bigger factor has been staying adaptable. When something works, I try to learn from it. When something doesn’t, I adjust and keep moving. That’s been a big part of growing Drone Company San Diego and Redideo Studio.
