Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Boulton.
Hi Denise, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I became a permitted micro enterprise home kitchen (MEKHO) in December of 2022 and officially launched Grandma Dee Home Cooking in April of 2023. I have worked in the Mortgage and Real Estate industry for 40 years, and in 2022 I saw a change in the market that warranted downsizing to sustain. I live in a newer community within Fallbrook that has little to no food service options, so I decided to research if I could help fill that gap. Grandma Dee Home Cooking is based off the concept of this is what I’m cooking today! We cook ready to serve dinners M-F on a rotating menu. All meals also come with a surprise dessert. No membership of any type is required; we just ask that you order by 3:00pm as we begin distribution between 5:00pm and 7:00pm. We also offer delivery for a small fee of $6.00 within the Fallbrook and Bonsall area.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a pretty smooth road as we were happily received within our community. We have built a solid reputation, and we are very appreciative of our community. No huge struggles to mention with the exception of learning what our community wants.
We’ve been impressed with Grandma Dee Home Cooking, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a MEHKO which means we have a restaurant permit which allows us to operate form our home. We cook delicious meals that our customer base seems to enjoy. What sets us apart is that our menu changes daily. I am most proud of our reputation with the feedback we receive. We feed a lot of elderly people and well as children. The presentation of our food also sets us apart. I believe that is equally as important as the quality of our food.
What makes you happy?
I enjoy helping others and getting to be creative with food. We make food beautiful in presentation as well as fun!
