Today we’d like to introduce you to Dinara Serikova.
Hi Dinara, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my journey in the hospitality industry by working hands-on as a waitress myself. From the very beginning, I was involved in every aspect of event service — setting up tables, serving guests, coordinating with hosts, and making sure each event ran smoothly. Working directly with clients allowed me to truly understand their expectations and the level of service they value.
Over time, I began receiving repeat requests and referrals, as clients appreciated my professionalism, attention to detail, and reliability. As demand grew, I realized there was a need for a higher-standard, more organized event staffing service. That’s when I decided to build FiveStar Waitresses.
Today, FiveStar Waitresses provides professional, well-trained servers, cocktail waitresses, and event staff for private and corporate events across Los Angeles and surrounding areas. I personally train and coordinate my team, ensuring that every staff member represents the same standards I set when I first started as a waitress. My goal has always been simple: to deliver seamless, high-quality service so our clients can truly enjoy their events.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey has definitely not been a smooth road. In the early stages, one of the biggest challenges was starting with very limited resources while managing every aspect of the business myself. I worked events personally as a waitress while also handling client communication, scheduling, staffing, and last-minute changes. Balancing physical work with business management required long hours, discipline, and resilience.
Another major challenge was building trust and credibility in a highly competitive market. Because I started independently, clients needed time to feel confident that I could consistently deliver professional, high-quality service. Every event mattered, and I treated each one as an opportunity to prove reliability, attention to detail, and professionalism.
As FiveStar Waitresses grew, staffing became a new challenge. Finding dependable, professional team members who shared the same standards and work ethic required careful selection, training, and hands-on leadership. Events move quickly, and there is little room for error, so maintaining consistency across every booking was essential.
Despite these challenges, each obstacle helped me strengthen my systems, improve my leadership skills, and better understand my clients’ needs. These experiences shaped FiveStar Waitresses into a service-driven business built on trust, accountability, and quality.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Fivestar Professional Services is a Los Angeles–based event staffing company specializing in professional waitstaff, cocktail servers, and event support for private and corporate events. The business was founded from hands-on industry experience — I began my career working events personally as a waitress, which allowed me to deeply understand both client expectations and the importance of seamless service.
What sets us apart is our strong emphasis on quality, consistency, and personal accountability. Unlike many staffing agencies, I am directly involved in training, coordinating, and supervising our team to ensure every event meets high standards of professionalism, presentation, and hospitality. Our staff is carefully selected, trained, and prepared to adapt quickly to different event environments, from intimate private gatherings to larger corporate functions.
We are known for reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to handle fast-paced events with confidence and grace. I am most proud of building a trusted brand based largely on referrals and repeat clients, which reflects the level of care and service we provide. Our goal is simple: to deliver exceptional service so clients can relax and fully enjoy their events, knowing every detail is handled with professionalism.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My biggest advice is to start where you are and don’t wait for everything to be perfect. When I began, I didn’t have a large team or resources — I focused on doing the work well, showing up consistently, and building trust one client at a time.
It’s important to learn your industry from the ground up. Working hands-on helped me understand details that later shaped my business and set my standards. Be patient with the process, stay open to learning, and don’t be afraid to do the hard work yourself in the beginning.
I also wish I had known that growth takes time and that challenges are part of the journey. Focus on quality, relationships, and integrity — if you do that, opportunities will follow naturally.
