Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Megan Lindsey, DACM, Dipl.O.M., L.Ac..
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in a small rural town in northeast Los Angeles County in a home marked by financial hardship and volatility. That experience shaped me deeply and ultimately fueled my desire to become a helper and a healer. I know firsthand how human suffering—whether emotional, physical, or spiritual—can rob a person of joy and a sense of purpose. But I also know that the human spirit is resilient. With the right care, support, and guidance, healing is always possible.
After working multiple jobs and caring for my family while putting myself through college, I reached a breaking point. My spirit was completely depleted. It was during that time that I stumbled across acupuncture and herbal medicine—almost by accident—and, despite my initial skepticism, I experienced a profound shift in both my mind and body. Within six months, I felt like an entirely different person. It quite literally saved my life.
That experience changed the trajectory of my career. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in psychology and then enrolled at Yo San University, where I pursued a Master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Those six years were a journey of their own, full of both challenges (LA traffic) and incredible growth (not having daily mental breakdowns in LA traffic). No matter what I faced, the medicine was always there to support me. After graduating and earning my license, my husband and I made the life-changing decision to relocate to San Diego—a move that felt like a coming home in every sense. Not long after, I was presented with the incredible opportunity to purchase Silver Sage Acupuncture in Kearny Mesa from a deeply respected practitioner who had served this community for nearly three decades.
Since then, I’ve continued to grow in my educational life by earning my Doctorate of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine in from Pacific College of Health and Science. All while deepening my love of this beautiful place. I’ve been embraced by a city filled with some of the warmest, most genuine people I’ve ever encountered. Each day, I open my doors to individuals from all walks of life. I take pride in offering a safe space where patients feel heard, supported, and empowered to take charge of their health and well-being.
Acupuncture and herbal medicine didn’t just heal me—they gave me a purpose. Today, my mission is to hold space for others, to help unburden their suffering, and to guide them back to a place of peace, vitality, and connection with themselves.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
What struggles? This is such a loaded question, and I’m going to answer it bluntly. Poverty, violence, depression, abuse, fear, despair—I mean, you name it, and I’ve lived through it. The road has always been bumpy— Appian Way bumpy—long, difficult, full of uncertainty. I feel that even if there were ever “smooth” parts of my journey I wouldn’t have recognized them as such at the time. It all felt like a struggle, a long glorious struggle. I fought for what I have, and that makes everything matter more—but isn’t that true for most of us? One of the most rewarding parts of being a practitioner is hearing the stories people carry; I’m constantly in awe of the fortitude of the human spirit.
I believe the human experience is about discovering our strength through the depth of our challenges. Struggle has a way of revealing both our gifts and our shadows. For me personally, I’ve become the person I needed during my darkest times—and that’s really what drives the work I do. I’ve transmuted the struggle into light—turning pain into purpose and challenge into clarity. Every challenge has shaped the way I show up for others: with empathy, directness, and a deep understanding of what it means to struggle and to heal.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Silver Sage Acupuncture?
My clinic, Silver Sage Acupuncture, offers whole-person care that blends Traditional Chinese Medicine, functional lab testing, and personalized treatment strategies to address complex health issues. I specialize in chronic conditions, hormone health, fatigue, pain, and emotional wellness. Many of my patients come in after feeling dismissed or stuck in conventional care—I help them to advocate for themselves in a confusing medical system, and I integrate with other practitioners—chiropractors, naturopaths, therapists, and MDs—because healing is rarely linear and often requires a team approach.
What people are often surprised to learn is that my work is rooted equally in science, art, and intuition. I’ve studied Chinese Medicine, psychology, herbal pharmacology, and clinical lab interpretation—but healing isn’t just about data. It’s also about how we listen, how we connect, and how we notice what’s not being said. My past gave me a unique lens through which to see the world and shaped the practitioner I’ve become—it’s what sets me apart. I am the medicine I practice and it evolves as I evolve, and I’m very proud of that.
Acupuncture is both a clinical science and a creative process. You have to know the diagnostic systems and biological mechanisms—but the power is in how you apply that knowledge, with precision and insight, to the individual in front of you. No two treatments are ever the same.
I think people are craving a more integrated approach to their health—one that respects the complexity of the body and the reality of being human. At Silver Sage Acupuncture, I offer care that’s grounded, warm, and effective. Whether someone is dealing with burnout, autoimmune symptoms, hormonal imbalances, or emotional strain, the goal is always to help them return to themselves—stronger, clearer, and more balanced.
What I’m most proud of is the trust this practice has earned. Patients consistently say they feel seen, respected, and cared for—and that’s exactly what I want this space to be: a place where people feel safe to heal and equipped to move forward- to know they aren’t alone, that someone else cares and is invested in their well-being.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I wouldn’t say I’m someone who chases risk for the thrill of it, but I’ve definitely taken big risks when they aligned with a deep gut feeling I couldn’t ignore. Falling in love, putting myself through school with no financial backing or support, starting my own clinic, investing in my education, leaving behind a stable career path to follow something less conventional—none of those decisions came with guarantees.
To me, risk isn’t about being reckless. It’s about being willing to step into the unknown when staying where you are no longer serves you. It’s asking, “What if this does work?” and being brave enough to find out. To trust that you can bounce back if it all falls apart. The biggest professional risk I’ve taken was trusting myself to build and run my own clinic, taking full responsibility not only for the business itself but for the life-altering decisions I make every day in the care of my patients. It’s a lot of pressure, a lot of risk.
I’ve taken emotional risks too: speaking honestly, setting boundaries, choosing healing over comfort. Those aren’t always the risks people talk about, but they’re often the ones that shape you the most. I strive each day to show up with sovereignty and authenticity, even when acceptance isn’t guaranteed.
At the end of the day, I think risk is necessary for growth, and it can pay big dividends if you have humility, humor, faith and follow-through.
