Hidden Gems: Meet Edgar Sanchez of Art Creators of Dreams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edgar Sanchez

Edgar, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hello my name is Edgar Sanchez and I am a creator, painter and dancer.

I first started drawing at the young age of 8. Most of the drawings and paintings I’ve done were made during my junior and senior year in San Diego High School. I’ve had the privilege of painting two murals in the old Sci-Tech building, I’ve won awards for a couple of my artworks at the Del Mar Fair and have had around 5 of my artworks published in two different Southwestern College book editions of “The Vagabond” 2023 and 2024.

I began Latin dancing at the age of 15 at multiple house parties but I did not take it serious until now in Southwestern college. My first Latin dance class was in the Fall semester of 2024 and although late, I was able to join a dance group called Dance Company. We sold hundreds of tickets and performed on stage in front of a large audience during the course of 4 days. Our piece was a bachata dance style choreography and the show was called Global Rhythms during November 2024.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My sister and I were raised by my Spanish speaking mother who worked full time as a hotel housekeeper. We grew up in the barrios of San Diego and besides being tough, we grew harshly fast. My mother was strict and taught us discipline no matter what, on top of that we were raised as religious zealots. I frequently caught myself being strict on what I do and how I do things. While in some way it had a positive effect on us such as being detail oriented, it would also have many negative repercussions that I struggle with today such as talking down to myself, unable to trust, secluding, and not feeling comfortable taking space.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The main goal for creating my business is to inspire others to accomplish their life dreams and to realize it is possible to succeed or accomplish; because believing is seeing. I would like to form and find a kind community that has that same mind frame, that wants to support each other and not tear others apart because of jealousy, envy or competition. As someone that was raised in a tough environment where I did not get the support or confidence I needed early on, I want people to know that there are persons out there that want to build each other up, hence the name of my business. I am now taking space and I am firmly convinced that it is ok for others to show their talents and come out in public and reach out.

How do you define success?
Success is feeling happiness and fulfilled in what you do.
