Today we’d like to introduce you to Eduardo Franco.
Hi Eduardo, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Franco’s Landscaping started humbly, not as a company, but as a dream and a father’s dedication. My dad, Jose Franco, began this business in the early 2000s as a side hustle, maintaining a single property in Rancho Santa Fe. When that homeowner moved to Encinitas (Leucadia area), they asked him to continue caring for their new property, a true testament to his quality of work and character. Over time, word spread along that same street, Hawk View Drive, and one by one, neighbors began hiring him. Before long, he was servicing over 10 houses in total on that same street, all through trust, consistency, and the kind of care only someone passionate about their craft can deliver. When I was 12 years old, my dad started bringing me along on Saturdays. I’d spend entire days watching, learning, and helping however I could. Those weekends weren’t just about landscaping, they were about learning work ethic, pride, and the value of doing things right. Week after week, year after year, we worked side by side on Hawk View Drive, building not just lawns and gardens but a foundation for the future. Through my teens and early adulthood, I explored different jobs from scooping manure at a horse ranch to working in accounting and finance but landscaping was always home base. In 2019, I decided to take things to the next level by obtaining a contractor’s license. I continued to work my regular 9-to-5 job during the week while expanding Franco’s Landscaping on evenings and weekends. By 2022, it was time to take a leap of faith, I left my full-time job and dedicated myself 100% to the business my dad had started two decades earlier. Since then, we’ve continued to grow, proudly serving clients all over San Diego County. Our client list now includes well-known names like U-Haul, Taco Bell, Frost Hardwood, countless property managers and many more, but we remain just as committed to the individual homeowner as we were on that very first property in Rancho Santa Fe. At Franco’s Landscaping, our roots run deep, built on hard work, family values, and a genuine passion for transforming outdoor spaces into something special.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey hasn’t always been easy. Like any small business, there have been plenty of highs and lows, moments of success and seasons of struggle. In the early days, every hour counted, and every task rested squarely on our shoulders.
We’d start in the field before sunrise, working straight through the day, mowing lawns, trimming trees, shaping landscapes, and solving problems on the spot. Then, once the tools were packed up and the sun had set, the second half of the day would begin. Evenings were spent building marketing campaigns, writing contracts, sending invoices, and tackling every other back-office task needed to keep the business moving forward. There were plenty of long nights and tired mornings, but quitting was never an option. We knew that each challenge was shaping us, teaching us how to manage better, communicate better, and serve our clients with more care and professionalism. Those early years were tough, but they built the foundation for everything Franco’s Landscaping stands for today: hard work, dedication, and pride in every job we take on. Looking back, the obstacles weren’t roadblocks, they were the stepping stones that helped us grow into the business we are today.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Today, Franco’s Landscaping has grown into a full-service landscaping company proudly serving all of San Diego County. What began as a small family operation has evolved into a trusted name known for reliability, craftsmanship, and genuine care for every property we touch. We specialize in commercial landscape maintenance, as well as irrigation system installations and repairs. From corporate campuses and retail centers to apartment complexes and private estates, we handle each project with the same level of attention and pride. Whether it’s keeping a property looking its best year-round or diagnosing and solving complex irrigation challenges, we approach every task with precision and purpose.
Landscaping is more than just maintenance to us, it’s a form of art. We see ourselves not only as problem solvers, but as artists who bring outdoor visions to life. Every yard, garden, and landscape tells a story, and our goal is to help our clients express theirs through thoughtful design, careful planning, and expert execution. At Franco’s Landscaping, we believe that outdoor spaces should be more than just functional, they should inspire. That’s why we take the time to understand each client’s goals, budget, and vision before turning ideas into reality. Whether it’s a small residential upgrade or a large-scale commercial project, we’re here to make San Diego a little greener, one property at a time.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Some of my favorite childhood memories are the late night drives along the coast with my parents. I would beg them to take the long route home just so we could ride beside the ocean. I’d sit in the back seat with my face pressed against the glass, completely mesmerized by the reflections of the moon and stars rippling across the surface of the ocean. Those drives made the world feel enormous, full of mystery and beauty. I remember wondering about everything that existed above those skies and below those waters. Looking back now, I realize those quiet moments were where my love for nature and open spaces truly began.
