Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Georgina Carrasco.
Hi Dr. Carrasco, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Ever since I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to be a doctor. I grew up spending numerous hours in my father’s dental office, playing with my toys while taking peeks here and there watching him work on patients. The drilling sound somehow became a familiar sound to me. It makes me feel at home up to now. I know it might sound strange since it is one of the things patients fear the most.
My father invited me to work for him as a dental assistant one summer during high school. I agreed. I learned how dentistry is a beautiful profession where you can actually help people by taking away pain and giving them back their confidence with new smiles.
As a senior in high school, I already knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I started that path right after high school. The road has been bumpy. But like everything else in life, we face challenges but dreams are what keep us going.
My husband and I have always dreamed of living in San Diego, so we decided to open our first office here. We moved in the middle of the COVID pandemic and I was pregnant. Those were strange months, full of uncertainties, excitement, and other mixed feelings.
After working for numerous offices as a dental assistant and subsequently as a dentist, I discovered my vision for my dental practice.
I promised myself that I would never prioritize profit over my patients’ well-being and experience. I truly want to give the best dental experience to my patients. I want to give them the best service possible using only the top materials and techniques. I am also super gentle. Blyss Dental is the best place to go if you have fear of dentists.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, it hasn’t been a smooth road but that’s what makes the journey fun right?
We signed our lease for our office here in Del Mar and started remodeling one month before the pandemic. At that time, it felt like it was the worse timing to start a business, let alone a new dental office.
I was also diagnosed with a high-risk pregnancy that same year. The doctors advised me not to work during my pregnancy.
Nowadays, each day presents challenges as I grow my practice while trying to balance a new lifestyle as a first-time parent. Sometimes it feels as if I have two babies :). My dental office and my son.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Blyss Dental?
At Blyss Dental, our top priority is treating our patients the best way possible. We know no one enjoys visiting the dentist so we try to make it as comfortable as it can be. If you have dental anxiety you’ve come to the right place!
We only use top-quality materials and we never rush our work or our patients.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Finding a mentor in your professional field is the best thing you can do to help you save time and headaches. You can learn from their mistakes. Sometimes they can push you and guide you through good and bad times. Sometimes it can feel like having a personal coach or guardian angel by your side looking after you.
My advice? Reach out to anyone you feel could be your mentor. Establish that relationship and nurture it. Prove that you are a worthy mentee. Many successful people like to mentor people that they see as younger versions of themselves.
Ensure that it’s a two-sided relationship. I take a lot of cutting-edge courses in cosmetic and implant dentistry. I discuss the courses with my mentors and they get some insights on the latest in the industry.
