Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah and Ricky Kuntemeyer.
Hi Hannah and Ricky, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We started Mean Training in 2019 at Ala Moana Beach Park as a side hustle. Although we both were working full-time jobs in unrelated fields, we shared a deep passion for health and fitness and wanted to share that passion with others. Although we hardly made any money starting off, we were hooked. We knew that this was the missing piece we had been searching for in our otherwise monotonous lives. We grew out of that little beach bootcamp and within a few years have expanded to corporate wellness, 1-1 personal training, online training, and nutrition coaching. When we think back to our very humble beginnings, we recognize that we’ve been given a unique opportunity to pursue our passions AND support ourselves financially. If we had played it safe and stuck with our comfortable yet uninspiring careers, we wouldn’t be where we are today. Bet on yourself and your passions!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. There have been more bumps in the road than we can count, but we can honestly say that without those obstacles, we wouldn’t be the people and coaches we are today. In 2020, a very large elephant entered the room known as Covid-19. Just like so many other small business owners, we were unsure if we’d be able to make it through the pandemic. As brand-new entrepreneurs, we had barely gained our footing in a pre-pandemic world, let alone the new landscape that Covid presented. However, this challenging season pushed us to think outside the box, resulting in our Online Personal Training services being born. It was also during this time we both experienced the unexpected passing of very close family members, leaving us reeling from the sudden shock of loss. During this extremely challenging time, we chose to bond together rather than push each other away and seek healing rather than bitterness. As painful as this season was, we can look back now with assurance knowing that because of these challenges, we have become more empathetic, grounded, and kind people because of it.
As you know, we’re big fans of Mean Training. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Mean Training believes in a holistic approach to fitness, teaching clients that wellness is not confined just to the physical component, but encompasses emotional, social, and mental health as well. Mean Training is passionate about building programs that emphasize empowerment, celebrating the small victories, and the importance of foundational movement patterns.
As firsthand believers of the transformational power of fitness, the Mean Training team strives to live a life that prioritizes their health and empowers others to Be Kind. Train Mean.
We specialize in building personalized training solutions that are designed to meet each individual where they’re at and guide them forward towards where they want to go. Our Online Personal Training services are our most popular service offering, as it is infinitely different from most other cookie-cutter online training programs. We do not purvey one-size-fits-all fitness approaches. Each Online Personal Training program is built from scratch based on individual goals, time constraints, equipment accessibility, and fitness levels. We don’t simply write a program then send people on their way, we walk with them step by step on their fitness journey, providing 1-1 accountability and support throughout every phase of the experience.
“Mean Training doesn’t just write workout and nutrition plans.
WE CREATE roadmaps for real change.
It starts with empathy, combined with the right mindset, using systems for success, infused together in a collaborative environment, EMPOWERING each individual to take charge of their journey.
There are no quick fixes.
This is a process.
Because real change takes time…
and YOU’RE WORTH IT.”
What do you think about luck?
We are not big believers in luck. We believe that everything happens for a reason and that all choices come with consequences – good or bad. We have been infinitely blessed by our Creator and believe that we have a purpose in this world we were destined to fill.
