Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Vo
Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always been enamored by beauty and lifestyle, but during Covid was when things took a turn for me. At this time, my partner pushed me to pursue the esthetician route because he saw how passionate I was for learning anything to build true clean, clear and/or healthy skin. He suggested for me to go to beauty school and eventually branch off on my own after receiving my needed hours and license and so I did! I got my license during August of 2022 and within due time, created my baby, The Glowed Mantle the following year. I am honored to say I am a solo proprietor and owner of my very own small business practicing what I love doing the most as a licensed advanced esthetician specializing in facials and all things skin!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course it has not been a smooth road. I honestly look back at how I started and kind of blacked out. From getting all the required paperwork in line, to building my own website and scheduling sites, etc. Especially because I absolutely had no guidance whatsoever and had to figure it out on my own (and still figuring it out), but I pushed through and made it all happen within a month. I have my slow months and busy months, but during those slow months I appreciate those too because it gives me the extra time to think of ideas to grow my business and personal self and also a way to fixate my focus for my mental/physical health. I am still fresh into this esthetician/beauty world and paving my way so there’s always going to be struggles along the way which is okay because it’s all about how you deal with the struggles. In life what I truly believe in is that if everything is easy, everyone would be doing it. I try to remind myself that because not everyone can do what you do, so to be able to do it, its feeds an amazing fulfillment for yourself. It’s always difficult to not compare yourself to others and that’s one of the biggest struggles when trying to build a name for yourself- you feel the pressure and discouragement along the way in the midst of all of that. Theodore Roosevelt once said: “Comparison is the thief of joy” and that truly struck a cord with me. To help curb and subside those feelings, I try to maintain confidence. What also helps me is that I have a supportive system surrounding me and who are in the same field with me, we explain our struggles and to know you’re not alone fighting these struggles puts your mind at ease. Then there are those moments where your work shines far and you have a village rooting for you- those are the moments that make it all so rewarding.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a facial esthetician that specializes in advance skincare and knowledge. I offer different facial services that can help build confidence in oneself and their skin! Also, to keep my clients walking out glowed, glistening and gleaming. What sets me apart from others is my ability to be extremely understanding, patient, and not be a pushy saleswomen all whilst working my craft to truly make sure my clients walk out feeling their best self. I could also say that’s what I’m proud of too. It takes a lot to trust someone to give you the results you want or need and the fact that I am a part of that process for some people out there makes me feel whole. Like WOW. Who wouldn’t feel so appreciated and amazed at that feeling? I will say a lot of times people do not prioritize their skin or do not have knowledge on it, and that’s okay. Or at times, people do not understand that facials are not an instant gratification service such as hair, brows, or lashes. I want to be a voice for the skin industry and clients to educate about having healthy skin barriers and truly watering their selves to bloom from their facial canvases. To understand the journey of bettering your skin, it takes patience. To start with that, I offer facial services within acne, aging/damaged, hyperpigmentation, or simply a skin refresher. This includes using different modalities such as microdermabrasion, LED light therapy, high frequency, and/or Dermaplaning. I would say I’m mindful of the economy with inflation and all sorts, so the services I offer is budget friendly and enough to maintain the service on a monthly basis. I am lucky enough to be able to provide costs efficient services to accommodate my clients and future clients and still utilize professional grade products from a reputable skincare company, Circadia. To be completely transparent, seeing results from clients and when they are in awe of their skin post facials, its the greatest reward for me. You could give me all the money in the world to do what I do, but i wouldn’t choose the monetary rewards over those moments my clients message me how they are over the moon on how their skin looks and just radiating through their beautiful selves- that’s just gives me butterflies. The backstory to how my brand is the name it is today (since I get asked on multiple occasions), I did not want a business name with my name in it, it was a personal choice of mine because I want to be able to build it into a larger business in the future. The acid MANTLE is the layer on the surface of your skin; this layer is your protection barrier to help as a blockade for towards infections and bacteria, with that being said, if your acid mantle is ever compromised or you simply just need a rejuvenation, ill be your guide to rectify that and keep you GLOWED. I’ve been blessed with the greatest clients within my 1.5 year of creating my business- building relationships with them, having a space where they feel seen, heard, and comfortable enough to be there WITH ME out of all estheticians they could choose? That’s what I’m most proud of and forever grateful for.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My greatest childhood memories were my weekends with my sisters and mom. My mom has always been into beauty and lifestyle as well, so every weekend she would take us to the mall with her and we could try all the clothes and be able to test makeup with her. After, McDonald’s would be the highlight – Mcchickens all the way with a nice iced cold Coke, haha.
