Hi Jovanna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Vivé Moss is a small mom & daughter shop. I began selling sea moss with my mom, in 2020. I was already busy with my fashion business and honestly had no time or money, but there was a fire burning inside of me. I am obsessed with learning about health and natural healing. I am a mother of 7 kids and at the time was searching for foods high in nutrients that have a long shelf life (in the event of food shortages, natural disasters, pandemics, etc.) I came across sea moss and began taking it. My whole family did, however, the pandemic was the main reason we took the leap of faith and introduced Vivé Moss. There was so much confusion around the virus and so much fear. We wanted to provided help within the community. Originally I was making masks, but after a few months of researching and paying attention to what was happening, I stopped making and selling masks. I was selling so many masks, the revenue was thru the roof. But I stopped believing in the product I sold and didn’t believe it was the answer to the pandemic. Shortly after, it was as though sea moss was in my destiny. My daughter who was 5 at the time had severe eczema, since she was about 3 months old. I began to heal her gut with sea moss and change in diet. I applied sea moss topically when she had flare ups and eventually the eczema disappeared. It’s been almost 3 years and her eczema is gone. This was also the birth of our sea moss soap bar. Sea moss has been a great source of natural vitamins and minerals in our household and has become a staple. My mother and I make every product ourselves, all handmade. We use natural organic products, no preservatives.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My original plan in turning sea moss into a business was to make sure my mom can retire with some income to fall back on.. We have had zero investors, loans, credit cards, etc. We started this business with the little cash we had on hand and we are still operating as such. We believe in boosting the immune system NATURALLY, we also believe that the body can heal itself if provided with the proper environment to do so. Breathing fresh air is one of them! Due to our beliefs and nature of our products, we are prohibited from promoting/advertising on social media, so we rely solely on recommendations, by word of mouth and social media. Thankfully, it has helped our business grow but definitely challenging!
What’s next?
We are currently in search of the perfect location for our store front in the south San Diego area. As of now, we offer shipping, delivery and attend local events and markets monthly. We have expanded our product line with herbal teas and other products such as oils and syrups, slowly adding all of our personal favorites to share with the world.
