The inception of Rincon Insurance was sparked by a poignant conversation between my mother and me. With over 30 years of experience working in the captive insurance world, Lisa was ready to break away and start our own independent agency. We saw an opportunity to create something exceptional in the industry, and we were both eager to take the leap.
With Lisa’s extensive knowledge of the insurance landscape and my passion for sales leadership and community impact, we knew we had the perfect blend of skills to create something truly extraordinary. Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting Rincon Insurance with my mother, Lisa, was a formidable challenge. As a startup, we encountered limited support and partnership opportunities, which made navigating the complex market access a daunting task. However, we knew that to maintain the integrity of our mission to serve our clients and community, we had to remain independent and bootstrap the agency.
Through perseverance, creativity, and hard work, we were able to secure our first carrier partnership, which opened up a gateway for us to establish connections with other carriers. This enabled Rincon Insurance to win over 15 carrier partnerships, providing a diverse range of products for our clients. Despite the obstacles we faced, we remained steadfast in our commitment to our mission, refusing to give up.
Entrepreneurship can be a difficult journey, but it can also be incredibly rewarding. Today, we are proud of what we have accomplished and remain dedicated to providing personalized, customer-focused insurance solutions. We hope our story inspires other minority-owned businesses to be courageous in the face of challenges and to never lose sight of their mission.

As we embarked on our entrepreneurial pursuit, we encountered a multitude of barriers and roadblocks, including navigating complex market access and limited support and partnership opportunities for insurance start-ups. Competitors and mentors expressed doubts about our ability to succeed as an independent agency. However, we were certain that upholding our agency’s purpose was the only way to build a solid foundation for business.
Through unwavering determination and ceaseless hard work, we successfully secured our first carrier partnership, which paved the way for us to establish connections with other carriers. This success demonstrated the value of remaining true to one’s mission, as it engendered the trust and confidence of our insurance industry partners, opening up further opportunities. Although our journey has been strenuous, it has also been immensely rewarding. We remain dedicated to providing our clients with the finest service and support, unwaveringly committed to our mission of serving our community with integrity.
