Hidden Gems: Meet Julie Freeman of Mindful Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Freeman.

Hi Julie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started out as a registered dietitian in the early 80s, but during college late 70s, I knew that it was not the be-all and end-all and felt a need to expand my learning which brought me to a master’s in counseling and psychology, followed by multiple certifications in Mind-Body Medicine, Reiki, Yoga, Genomics, Functional Medicine and more recently, the emergence of Psychedelic Medicine.

I often joke and say that I’m like a kid in the candy store minus the candy – no sugar in this house!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all! I worked in the eating disorder, psychiatric, and pain medicine arenas for many years and did not fit the mold of forcing Oreo cookies on my patients in order to “normalize” their eating behavior. My dear friend and colleague, Dr. James Greenblatt, Functional Psychiatrist in Boston, uses targeted testing with nutrition and supplementation, as a first choice in treating a variety of psychiatric disorders including eating disorders.

Now, most clinics and treatment centers recognize the importance of a whole foods diet and the support that supplementation can provide.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I have been in private practice for many years and over time, my practice has evolved to include personalized, precision medicine and nutrition. What that means is that I use both conventional and functional laboratory testing along with genetic testing to assist with creating individualized treatment plans. These plans also usually include stress management techniques, increasing time in nature, and spiritual guidance – getting to one’s purpose and passion in life.

What are your plans for the future?
In the very near future, I will be partnering with my present practice manager who also is certified in coaching, Reiki, astrology, and shamanic studies. We will be co-creating classes and individual assessments and coaching together to provide a deeper dive into whole health well-being.

I plan to create a coffee shop with my life partner where people can gather, collaborate, learn and find community and connection. Beyond that, the plan is to build a retreat center where people can be with nature, again find community, and tap into their unique passions and gifts to be brought forth.

It is time for each of us to step into our greatness and use our gifts for supporting others in their healing journey.
