Hidden Gems: Meet Katherine Zimmerman of California Hypnotherapy Academy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Zimmerman.

Hi Katherine, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
In 1989 I was working at UC Davis and learned about Hypnotherapy training through a co-worker. After my first weekend in class, I felt as if I’d found my calling. I opened my own practice starting the very next January by teaching a self hypnosis class and seeing clients in my living room. I was eager to learn more so I attended an international professional hypnotherapy conference. By 1994 I wanted more, so I applied to be a speaker. By then I was comfortable speaking to groups but not to groups of my own peers. That’s really when everything shifted. I gave my talk and sold the self hypnosis manual that I used in my class. In subsequent years, I wrote five more instructor’s manuals and a series of books for hypnotherapists. Today I am the Founder/Director of the California Hypnotherapy Academy, offering classes live online for those wishing to practice hypnotherapy. At this point I could retire but I’ve discovered something new which has changed everything. I’m teaching hypnotherapists to personalize their clients’ experience using their Sun and Moon signs. After 36 years, hypnotherapy is still my passion.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Early in my practice, the biggest challange was educating people about hypnosis. They were often fearful, thinking I would be in control. Or that they would blurt out their deepest, darkest secret. And, of course, attracting sufficient clients to make a living was a struggle at times. I found that having three main income streams alleviated that problem, for the most part.

We’ve been impressed with California Hypnotherapy Academy, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I established the school in 2007 after teaching for several other hypnotherapy schools. I wrote a detailed, comprehensive curriculum and have discovered that teaching classes live, online is more effective that keeping students in class two full days over a weekend, every other weekend. I come from a family of teachers so teaching feels very natural.

I’m proud to have developed a program that is extremely comprehensive and addresses most learningn styles. It combines independent learning with flexibility and live support. Students completing this program are better trained than they were in the live weekend format.

Helping others is an extemely satisfying way to earn a living. And helping through hypnotherapy allows clients to have lasting change.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Since there’s more to life than what we see on the surfact, I follow a podcaster from Australia, Revealing Light Tarot. She spend 30 years as in investigative journalist, and combines that knowledge with Tarot and Astrology.
