Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathryn Eipl.
Hi Kathryn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, I actually started my career working in entertainment. When I had moved out to California in 2012, I had set out to work in production for live events and theoretical productions in Los Angeles. I discovered yoga when I was in grad school. Two of my good friends convinced me to attend a hot yoga class. It took a lot of convincing! I was a very different person then. After that first hot yoga class, I was hooked. I signed up for a studio membership on the spot and started going twice a week. I would even schedule production meetings around my yoga classes. If I skipped a class, I was more irritable and short tempered.
As the demands of grad school and work grew, I transitioned to working full time and attending school part time. I told myself I didn’t have time for my yoga and meditation practices. I kept myself preoccupied with work, often working late and pulling really long hours. Feeling overwhelmed and underappreciated, I found my way back to a local yoga studio. I began going before work, taking the first class of the day at the studio. It was so early; I was usually the only person there. I was grateful the teacher never cancelled class when it was just me!
The more demanding my work got, the more yoga classes I would attend, trying all types of yoga, even aerial yoga and dance. Eventually, it got hard to take classes because the nature of my work the hours shifted a lot from working daytime, to overnights. My favorite studio started a teacher training, and I took it with the intention of learning to listen to my body and compose sequences accordingly to what my body needed. That way I could do yoga on my own and have knowledge of proper alignment, without needed a class or teacher to guide me. I had no intention of teaching it to others.
When I finished my teacher training. I started working at the studio before and after work. I realized that this “work” was more fulfilling than my entertainment career. I could see how I was helping shift my clients’ days. It was similar to how I felt, when my yoga teacher didn’t cancel classes when it was only me at the 7am classes! I started taking more trainings and working at more studios all over LA, from the valley, to Hollywood, Santa Monica, and Downtown. I was enjoying teaching yoga, aerial yoga, and meditation with singing bowls, so much, that I decided to walk off a yearlong entertainment project when it came time to relocate to site. The thought of leaving the studios and my clients brought me to tears. I never had expected it would be that hard for me to leave them. I listened to my heart and began pursuing my career in integrative medicine and wellness full time.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been obstacles to overcome. At the beginning, I got a lot of comments on yoga and energy work being “woo woo” and questions about the scientific legitimacy of yoga, reiki, meditation, and sound therapy. Coming from a scientific background myself, I wanted to create a bridge from science to spirituality and educate people on the science and psychology behind yoga, reiki, meditation, and sound therapy. This pursuit led me to take more trainings, such as, an in-depth yoga intensive in Rishikesh, India, Trauma Informed Yoga, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Life Coaching, and a few others.
When I started, back in LA, it was very much a studio hustle lifestyle. Working at studios all over LA. It felt like I spent most days in my car commuting from studio to studio and a lot of money on gas. I had very little time for myself, let alone a social life. I loved what I was doing and kept going.
When I did have “free” time, I went to wellness events, art shows, and took classes at different studios. That allowed me to meet more people doing what I was doing, and I started partnering up with them to create workshops and events like, Sound Healing and Aromatherapy, CBD Infused Reiki & Soundbath, Heart Activating Movement with Sacred Sounds. I even started co-hosting 420 friendly Goat Yoga and Soundbath events with Party Goats LA. Those events often sold out quickly and did so well, I was able to pay my rent and bills doing two of those events a month. Then the pandemic happened, and we were all put in quarantine, which created its own set of challenges.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
E.I.P.L. Healing is more than a name. It’s a mantra. Every Individual Person is Love Healing, in their own way. It serves as a reminder to treat people how you would like to be treated in any given situation and to avoid making assumptions for their actions. You don’t know why someone cut you off in traffic. Maybe they are running late to their destination because their kid was sick this morning. Maybe they got into an argument with a friend or loved one and it put them in an anxious mood. You don’t know the reasoning behind their actions. All you can do is stay in your lane and focus on yourself and where you’re going (both literally and figuratively).
I created E.I.P.L. Healing, in 2017, because I know that everyone is healing in their own way and looking to bring more love into their life, whether it is self-love, platonic love or romantic love. This is the basis for my work. Every individual has their own set of experiences and imprints that require personalized care. Each client is treated as an individual person according to their unique set of circumstances and personal goals. No two clients are treated the same.
People aren’t cookie cutters, why treat them that way?
I fuse psychology with ancient yogic practices and meditation to help people learn to regulate their nervous systems and connect to themselves on a deeper level, uncovering patterns about themselves that they want to change and provide a space for them to practice acknowledgment and acceptance. Then, I use cognitive behavioral therapy coaching to support them in changing those behavior and belief patterns to instill new beliefs and behaviors.
I specialize in supporting people in working through addictions, heartbreak, and self-sabotage. I empower people to create a healthy and loving relationship with themselves to invite more love into their lives and establish authentic connections.
Working with those in addiction recovery is important to me and close to my heart. I grew up in a home where alcoholism was very present. When I discovered sound therapy, I was working my way out of depression and my own addiction. Sound therapy, yoga and meditation made my recovery easier. It felt like these modalities were giving me my power back. Reminding me I have the power of choice. I enjoy sharing these modalities with others in recovery. I work with a local women’s residential treatment center, Villa Kali Ma, in Carlsbad. I host weekly Restorative Yoga and Sound Healing Meditation groups. Every other week, I offer 1:1 Reiki sessions to their clients.
In addition, I work with Scripps Hospital in supporting their cancer patients and caregivers by offering free weekly Restorative Yoga and Sound Therapy classes at three different locations around San Diego.
Outside of the Villa and Scripps, working with me has many forms. I offer 1-1 coaching either in-person or virtually. I offer in-person, in-home, Reiki sessions and Sound Therapy sessions. Typically, I travel to my clients, or we can meet at an office space. I also offer Space Reiki to cleanse the energy in one’s home or workspace. I host private events, ceremonies (upon request) and retreats. My most recent retreat was a 5-day experience comprised of breathwork, yoga, meditation, sound healing and a ceremony with a native curandera in the mountains of Oaxaca, Mexico with three other facilitators, Gerado Urias, Tamara Schnarr, and Margy Goodman.
I believe that Every Individual Person is Love and is deserving of love. That’s why I built my business around the question, “what can I do to bring more love into the world.”
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
When the pandemic occurred and we were in lockdown, several of the studios temporarily closed. I went from a steady flow of income to virtually nothing. One studio went fully online with their class schedule within one week. It was a time to get creative. Until then, my business was built of hosting in-person classes and events.
That’s when I created an online coaching component to E.I.P.L. Healing. These coaching sessions take a comprehensive, customized and whole-person holistic approach that accounts for the physical, emotional, mental, social, spiritual, and environmental factors that influence your health.
The lessons from the pandemic have sparked my focus on a project to bring E.I.P.L. Healing straight to your phone.
Stay tuned! 🙂
