Today we’d like to introduce you to Layo George (BSN, MHSA)
Hi Layo, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Layo George (BSN, MHSA), and I am the Founder & CEO of Wolomi. Growing up, I was surrounded by the joy of community support. A huge part of this is thanks to my mother, who served as a midwife. These formative experiences planted the seed for my future endeavors in maternal health.
My personal experiences during my own pregnancy led me to research alarming statistics about maternal health outcomes. I was determined not to let pregnancy and birth simply happen to me; I wanted to take charge of my experience and not allow the healthcare system to dictate my journey. I realized that regardless of income or insurance quality, many women still face significant challenges in achieving a positive pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience. I saw firsthand that even in well-off communities, healthcare experiences could be inadequate compared to those in less affluent areas.
Recognizing these disparities motivated me to develop a system that empowers women to navigate motherhood with confidence and joy. This birthed Wolomi; a pregnancy and motherhood companion app. At Wolomi, we emphasize education and community support. For instance, our weekly pregnancy moments—crafted by a maternal health expert—provide essential insights into what’s happening in the body, important conversations to have with healthcare providers, and guidance on navigating the complexities of motherhood as an underserved mother.
Wolomi is dedicated to ensuring that moms navigate pregnancy and motherhood with joy and confidence, supported by a community of experts and other moms that understand their journey.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Building tech as a non-tech founder hasn’t been a smooth road. However, I was able to overcome these struggles by assembling a strong team and fostering a community that trusted us. Their support has been invaluable in driving our vision forward.
As you know, we’re big fans of Wolomi. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I owe a great deal of my success to several key individuals and organizations. My professor from Georgetown University played a pivotal role by encouraging me to pursue my entrepreneurial ambitions. Additionally, programs like Google for Startups, Techstars, Village Capital, Adapt, and the VOA Accelerator-Future Funds have provided essential resources and mentorship. Each of these supporters has contributed to my growth and the success of our business in different ways.
