Today we’d like to introduce you to Lily Shapiro.
Hi Lily, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a pharmacist by training, but I spent the last fifteen years on Wall Street, most recently helping to run a machine-learning hedge fund. That left me with a bias toward data, which I turned on my own skin once I hit my forties and started noticing real changes. My path into skin longevity began from a place of personal interest in my own skin health, and a desire to understand how biology, prevention, and long-term health intersect.
When I entered my forties, I began noticing changes in my skin quality and started digging into the clinical research to understand what actually has human data behind it and what is largely marketing. That process made me increasingly frustrated with how skin health is typically addressed: reactive, trend-driven, and focused on short-term cosmetic outcomes rather than long-term biological function. Despite an explosion of products and claims, very little attention was being paid to prevention, evidence, or the underlying systems that govern skin aging.
After reviewing hundreds of clinical trial results across collagen peptides, ceramides, antioxidants, and micronutrient protocols, I began developing a skin longevity blend for myself as a way to bridge the gap between what I believed skin health required and what the market was offering. That curiosity quickly expanded into deeper research across dermatology, nutrition science, and longevity biology. I saw a clear disconnect between what the science suggests is possible and what consumers are typically given — single-ingredient narratives, short timelines, and vague promises.
What became clear is that skin longevity isn’t about quick fixes; it’s about how long your skin can function, repair, and protect you well – what I call skinspan – not just how it looks in photos this month. Skin is a living organ shaped by cumulative inputs over decades: light exposure, oxidative stress, inflammation, barrier integrity, micronutrient status, and chronic stress all layer on top of each other over time. Most of the industry still treats skin as if a single “hero ingredient” and a 7–28 day promise can solve that, but the biology tells a different story. Collagen remodeling, barrier repair, and cellular resilience unfold over months and years, which means the real opportunity is supporting all those cumulative inputs in a coordinated, realistic way. ATIKA was built around that idea. Instead of chasing trends, the focus is on a measured, evidence-based system that supports the underlying biology of skin so it can stay healthier and better functioning for longer.
That insight ultimately led me to leave Wall Street and build in the skin longevity space full time. Today, I’m focused on creating a science-first approach that prioritizes rigor, restraint, and long-term trust over trends. The guiding principle is simple: if we make claims about skin health, they should be biologically grounded, clinically defensible, and honest about their limits. The mission remains the same: to help people think about skin not only as something to correct, but something to protect — supporting its skinspan, the length of time skin remains healthy and functional.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road? One of the hardest parts of building a new category has been undoing the way people are trained to think about skincare. The default question I get is, “What’s the main ingredient, and how fast will I see results?” People want a single “magic molecule” and a 30-day promise, because that’s what the industry has taught them to expect. Early on, I had conversations where it was clear that anything more nuanced than a hero ingredient and a quick before-and-after felt unfamiliar. We chose not to lean into that, even though it would have made adoption faster, because oversimplifying would undermine the whole point of skin longevity. Instead, we’ve invested a lot of energy in education – explaining that real, durable skin health comes from multiple inputs working together over time – and staying disciplined about that, even when a louder, hype-driven story might have been easier.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about ATIKA?
ATIKA is a science-first skin longevity company built around the idea that how skin ages depends on how well its underlying biology is supported over time. ATIKA’s first product, Advanced Skin Nutrition, is a daily skin health powder designed to be as effortless as your morning coffee, often described as “AG1 for skin” — a single, evidence-based daily powder that supports collagen integrity, barrier lipids, oxidative balance, and cellular function.
While many people come to us seeking visible improvements, the deeper objective is preserving skin function — keeping skin protected, well-hydrated, and better able to repair itself over the long term. People often notice changes in tone and visible stress first, but the real goal is maintaining strong, well-functioning skin decades down the line. Skin aging is multi-factorial, so our approach integrates insights from dermatology, nutrition science, and aging biology to address those drivers together in a measured, holistic, and responsible way.
From a brand perspective, we’re most proud of restraint. We avoid hype, define boundaries clearly, and prioritize credibility over trends. ATIKA exists to help reframe skin health as both corrective and preventive — supporting visible outcomes today, while protecting the biological foundations that matter over decades.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is being fully absorbed in something, whether that’s work, movement, or time spent with loved ones. Snowboarding is a big part of that. There’s something grounding about being outdoors, moving fast, and having to stay fully present. I tried heli-snowboarding for the first time last year, and it made one thing very clear: the mountain doesn’t tolerate sloppiness. It demands focus, preparation, and a certain amount of courage. You can’t overthink it; progress comes from repetition, patience, and respect for the environment. That mindset carries into how I work.
I find a lot of happiness in building things slowly and deliberately. I enjoy the process of asking better questions, refining ideas, and seeing understanding compound over time. Creating something that’s thoughtful, durable, and genuinely useful is deeply satisfying, especially when it challenges conventional thinking.
At the core, what makes me happy is alignment: doing work that reflects my values, staying curious, and making time for the things that keep me physically and mentally grounded. When those pieces are in balance, everything else tends to work better too.
